My best DVD player yet.July 9, 2007 We have 5 DVD players in my home, one of them is similar to this one (came with the speakers), whereas the others were just a DVD player. The DVD player I had that already came with the speakers was a few years older, but it was a Sony, and the sound was incredible.
Anyway, I recently purchased an HDTV, and I had been using my older DVD player by connecting it through the S-VIDEO, and it looked very bad on the HDTV. TOTALLY crappy, in fact. Then I got this JVC TH-C40 player and I immediately noticed that it handled the DVD's much better on an HDTV. Then, I decided to use the HDMI port, and WOW what a difference. The movies look crystal clear, and they look better than when you watch them on HD movie channels. The sound is great, and it has DTS which is a must for sound lovers (most good movies come with DTS sound), and it has settings that none of my other DVD players have, such as the DVD player being set to 720p Progressive (which is what I have, so it makes the movies look better), or interlaced (if you had a standard TV and not an HDTV). But the main reason I am writing this review is because of how great the movies LOOKED due to the DVD player's wonderful upscaling ability. Movies look MUCH better through my DVD upscaling than they do on an HD movie channel.
Maybe I get impressed with things easily, sue me. I'm just very happy with this product, and it has made my movie-viewing experience much better. Now when friends come over and watch a DVD on my HDTV, they are actually IMPRESSED with the picture quality.
Great product .. Great sound for the priceApril 11, 2007 I installed this product in my bedroom, and it sounds great. I'm not sure how it would sound in a larger room, but I suspect it would sound good because I don't even raise the volume above the half way point.
I would have given it a 5 if the rear speaker wires were longer, or if the wires were't wired directly into the speaker. Also, the remote control is a little difficult to figure out without the manual, and it is very symmetrical, which makes it difficult to find the right buttons in the dark.
Despite these shortcomings, it's a great system. I would definitely recommend it.
Pretty Good for the priceMarch 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't have a lot of experience with these so I did alot of research to find that this system had a lot of the features I wanted for a good price. After purchasing and installing, I've got no major beefs with the product. The sound is good, but the video "up-conversion" performed by the dvd player isn't impressive on my Hdtv. I haven't used a burned dvd w/ adhesive label so I can't comment regarding that bug, yet. I'll report back if anything goes awry.
Do NOT purchase from JVC!!March 24, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This DVD player completely zotted out under the 90 day warrenty. JVC has absolutely the worst repair and customer service imaginable! We took it into a service center and were informed that the player can't be replaced, it has to be fixed. Okay, 6 weeks and inumerable phone calls later, we are told that the parts needed are indefinitely backordered and that they STILL will not replace the DVD player! We were also informed that the JVC company isn't concerned with an individual customer or whether we purchase from them again. We are going to the BBB to see if they will give us some assistance. Protect yourselves and purchase a system from a company that actually cares about their customers!
Very pleasedMarch 11, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was pleased with the ease of setup. It interfaced well with my 42 inch Panasonic Plasma TV as there was no issues. The room where I use the surround system is relatively small hence I had no issue with the 40 watt system. I do agree that the speaker wires to the front speakers are too short considering the woofer is off to the side. The selection for surround sound options works well for me as does the adjustment of levels. I think the 40 watt system is good value.
