Almost perfectDecember 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
PROS: + Handles HD-content well, especially 1080i + Setup is simple and intuitive. I have two routers with a DMZ, and after a little tweaking, was able to get it configured quite easily + Continual software/firmware updates from SlingMedia mean that it's clearly a product that's going to be updated in the coming months/years + For the price, excellent + On-screen controls are easy to use, and Guide works
CONS - No HDMI support - Multiple devices of the same type hooked to different inputs cannot be separated with IR (meaning the IR signal is sent to all IR endpoints, which can cause some problems) - Watching on Mobile phone isn't optimum, but it is great. Wish they would full screen and do better QoS - Control mode is choppy
OVERALL - Would buy it again in a heartbeat. While it definitely has room for improvement, I'm hoping those issues are remedied from a software standpoint and offered as free upgrades.
Great Product!!! Highly recommended!!December 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great product. Have the Hava Wireless as well and the new Slingbox Prod-HD is much better from top to bottom. The HD resolution only works when in a local network, but hopefully that is something they will rectify later. Great support too as compared to the Hava team. Also have the Slingplayer mobile for my Windows Mobile phone...absolutely fantastic! Sling.com beta is also out so it allows you to connect to your slingbox without having to download the Slingplayer software...so any remote pc will allow you to connect to your slingbox without the software...Keep up the good work folks at Slingmedia!
so far it's as good or better than first two SlingboxesNovember 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I live and work in Europe and like to follow all sorts of American sports, especially my Michigan teams (yes even the lowly winless Lions!). Before getting the PRO-HD I used an original Slingbox at my home in Ann Arbor and a Slingbox Pro at my brother's home in Arizona. Sling Media does a great job of upgrading/updating its software improving picture resolution. When I upgraded to the Slingbox PRO I saw significant improvement in the picture quality. It really gives a much crisper pictures at large viewing sizes. So far my experience with the PRO-HD has been somewhat limited through no fault of Sling. I'm still waiting for an HD upgrade of my cable service at which time I'll update this review. I tried setting up my new PRO-HD as a new Slingbox and encountered quite a bit of difficulty. The instructions were not very helpful. I also looked online and still could not figure out the setting. I ended up using my original Slingbox's setting. This did the trick. When I set up my original Slingbox I recall going through quite a bit of frustrating trial and error before figuring out the right setting fro my wireless network. I can imagine that people who are not as technically inclined may need some assistance to get their Slingboxes working. As for the picture quality, I got the usual crystal clear picture while streaming at home on the wireless network. After returning to my overseas home in Budapest I kept my fingers crossed and hoped that I could reach my Slingbox. The streaming is fine but For some reason the Kbps is rather low. On my end here in Budapest I know that I have more than enough bandwidth as I receive NFL Gameplan HD at almost triple the Kbps. I suspect this is more a problem with my ISP in Ann Arbor. I'll need to check this as the picture is not as crisp as I know it should be. I'm still waiting to stream with HD and to try controlling on demand features. As soon as I have these services I'll update this review. In the meantime I can recommend this Slingbox and its predecessors to people who want to view their home television from remote locations as close to another room or as far as around the world.
Excellent ProductNovember 24, 2008 Setup was easy and works great over the home network. I'm using a laptop and Wireless N for viewing at home and it's running at full resolution with little or no noticeable compression.
Of course, outside of the home network you are limited by your internet provider's upstream bandwidth. The Slingbox does an excellent job of managing this and still yields a reasonable picture.
Not functional for Coax inputNovember 19, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Pros: The box is cool?
Cons: Was unable to get the cable input to detect my digital cable provider (TimeWarner) in analog or digital mode.
Summary: I had a Slingbox Classic that I loved. Simple, direct, easy, bulletproof. Plugged it in and it just worked. I was a big fan and recommended it to many others.
It died about 6 weeks ago and I wanted to get the Pro HD's digital tuner to get the extended channels. Amazon sent out right out. Opened it up and connected the coax, power, and network. Got a couple of channels detected in all the settings. Off to call customer service.
I have spent over 8 hours with the help desk trying to get it to detect my cable channels. No joy. There are two options: 'Analog' and 'Digital (Clear QAM)'. Analog detected my channel guide only and digital detected some of the adjunct stations (e.g., NBC local weather channel) but neither setting detected the basic cable channels I got on the Slingbox Classic or any of the other digital signals.
Customer service sent me a new system that performed exactly the same as the original. I'm sending that one back to the Slingbox people and the one I originally purchased back to Amazon. I guess I'll wait for a couple of software revisions and try again. Sigh.
A side note - I didn't try it with a cable box or other source. If you are interested in those read the other reviews. I was only purchasing it for the digital tuner feature.
