Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
The MDR-V300 closed supra-aural headphones provide top-end comfort and sound quality. Sony's closed type headphones allow only a limited amount of ambient noise into the ear canal, giving your attention fully to the music. The padded earcups fit comfortably, hour after hour. For those who like to use the headphones for single-sided monitoring, these MDR-V300s come with reversible earcups. The supra-aural design is engineered for excellent listening comfort. With this design, the earcups rest lightly on the ear, while the driver units are positioned along the ear canal for ideal sound transport. The wide, molded headband distributes the headphone's weight evenly. The headphones are foldable for easy storage and portability; when folded, the headphones will easily fit in a backpack or purse. The three meter cord (ten feet) is made of oxygen-free copper wiring for maximum conductivity and minimal noise.

Sony has installed several key features to these headphones to enhance their sound quality. The thirty millimeter drive units delivers a deep bass sound and a wide dynamic range (the frequency range extends down to 18 Hz.) Both the stereo mini-plug and the UniMatch phone plug are gold-plated to make sure sound is transported fully and accurately. The gold-plated treatment also helps resist corrosion and supports the headphones' high conductivity and low noise. The neodymium magnets allow for superb power at a minimum size; these magnets provide more magnetic energy than other inferior magnets. Finally, the PET diaphragm works to deliver low distortion.

Excellent fit, excellent compatibility, excellent portability and excellent sound: these headphones fit the bill for a sound professional.

4 out of 5 stars my almost perfect headphones   August 28, 2008
The Sony MDR-V300 headphones are my almost perfect pair of headphones. They are very comfortable, and the sound that comes out of them is phenomenal. I listen to metal and dance music, and I could not have asked for better sound.I just wish that Sony added a volume control switch to the cord for these headphones.

5 out of 5 stars Great comfort and quality   June 9, 2008
I purchased these specifically for the 10' cord so I could watch tv in bed (Sennheiser wireless headphones did not work). I was surprised by the comfort and quality of these headphones. One of the better sets I've ever owned.

so basically i bought a pair of these sorry excuses for headphones about 5 months ago. not only did the lower part of the headphone jack break off, it broke off IN MY IPOD, essentially ruining it, unless i want to pay some insane fee to send it off and be fixed (which i dont). when i tried to contact sony, as soon as they realized i was inquiring about some cheap pair of headphones instead of a ps3 or one of their hdtvs, they basically disregarded my complaint, told me there was nothing they could do for me and pretty much implied that it was my own fault for not being more careful with them. while the headphones were operational, the sound quality was decent (certainly respectable for lower end headphones) but the entire unit was EXTREMELY uncomfortable not just on top of my head but over my ears as well (some of these reviewers calling the headphones' design ideal must never have tried any other pairs). the cord is also inexplicably long, which sounds like nitpicking, but it really got on my nerves having to constantly untangle and untie all these knots, or having to shove 5 feet of wire in my pocket so it didnt drag on the ground. although i personally never had any problems with the actual headset breaking, its painfully evident that the swivels are very cheaply made, and i certainly wouldnt reccomend shoving these in a backpack or messenger bag, as i could easily see one of these cheap plastic beams breaking after a day in a confined space with other insecure hard objects (although at least then only the headphones would be broken and not your ipod as well). AVOID THESE PIECES OF GARBAGE LIKE A PLAGUE!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent buy   April 21, 2008
I'm a musician, and sound is important, especially working electronically. I have bought these particular headphones twice. They are of excellent sound quality for an excellent price. Warning-DO NOT DROP THEM -As they structurally aren't as good as they could be, and I've had to super-glue the plastic pieces in several different spots - but the sound more than compensates. These are the best in their price range. I've had my first pair for almost 3 years now.
Also they are light and, not too snug, and are comfortable in winter and summer weather. The 10' foot cord allows for great home uses too!!

1 out of 5 stars Perhaps better off, now that they've broken   April 10, 2008

I'm not an audio expert, so I've been adequately satisfied with the sound these MDR-V300 phones produce. But maybe I shouldn't be.

I'm giving up on them after they broke today for the second time (first the plug, then the plastic headband), To my surprise, the cheap Yamaha RH-2Cs I'm using now are more comfortable and give me previously unnoticed sound details.

The V300s have always seemed too small for my head, even with the phones fully extended.
