IOMEGA 500 GB EXTERNAL HARD DRIVEDecember 4, 2008 This is my second IOMEGA brand external HD. My other one is three years old, but I filled it up. This one runs noticebly hotter. It comes with a slip-on stand allowing it to be vertical. I recommend it be used in the vertical position to keep it from getting too hot.
I actually paid less for this 500 GB product than I did for the older 250 GB unit. This brand is quite dependable and I have had no problems, even with the hotter 500 GB unit. I have had this newer unit about a month now and it is on 24 hours a day.
It comes already formatted as NTFS and it is easy plug-n-play.
Great hard driveDecember 2, 2008 I've had this hard drive for about a month. It's very easy to set up. Easy to use. The on/off button is convenient. I've had no problems so far. The hard drive's usable space is only 465 Gb (not the full 500). I'm not sure how this compares to others. My only beef is that I wish I'd gotten the Terabyte hard drive made by Iomega because I've gotten into video so after just 1 month and hundreds of videos, my 500 GB hard drive is half full.

Don't delete anything from your computerDecember 1, 2008 The only thing I have to say that is a very useful product. You can storage all you information without the need to erase anything. The only con is the size and weight of the drive (but they're managable), but it seems to be very durable and resistant. Glad to bought it.

After needing additional storage for my files, I started researching specs, prices and reviews of comparable drives and comparing. This one by far sounded the best and got best reviews. I ordered it and had it connected and running exactly 4 days afer ordering, even though it included a weekend. Amazing. The device was the easiest computer component I've ever encountered. Not a computer pro, I just plugged it in and immediately had it up and running and already transferrng files. It is fast and extremely easy to use. The unit is very attractive and looks to be extremely well built. I am really happy with the purchase to say the least, just hope it holds up well and lasts, see no reason it won't. I've not tried the free downloading software for backup yet so can't comment on that. But for anyone not really well versed in computer coponents and drives, this cannot be beat for it's simplicity! Would definitely recommend it!
