Product Description The Intel X25-M SATA Solid State Drive (SSD) delivers leading performance in industry standard 2.5" form factor while simultaneously improving system responsiveness for mobile applications over standard rotating drive media or hard disk drives. By combining Intel's leading NAND flash memory technology with the innovative high performance controller, Intel delivers an SSD for native Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disk drive drop-in replacement with enhanced performance, reliability, ruggedness and power savings.Since there are no rotating platters, moving heads, fragile actuators, or unnecessary delays due to spin-up time or positional seek time that can slow down the storage subsystem significantly, the Intel X25-M SATA SSD enables fast read/write access times and a significant I/O and throughput performance improvement as compared to rotating media or hard disk drives.

My laptop now feels like it's 3 generations newer....
the only sad part is that I know I can now NEVER go back to rotating storage... just like you can't go back to dailup after having used DSL for a while.
Excellent performing ssd!!!October 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was leary on purchasing an SSD due to mixed reviews...it seems either they are loved or hated. I got to say that the x25m is a must buy for a laptop user! It beats my previous Seagate 200GB 7200.2 in speed (read and write)and not to mention less heat production. After formatting and installing a fresh version of Vista SP1 32bit, I have had no "jerks" in the performance as some have mentioned on other boards and have had no bad occurences yet. I would say just buy this SSD instead of buying a replacement laptop as the old mechanical drives are deffinitely a bottleneck! You have to try it out to appreciate it as it is costly.
A new PC!October 22, 2008 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
This drive rocks! This product will be a definite 'must' for any PC user. There is a immediate benefit in your daily life. Everything is quicker, no heat, what is there not to like?
Once everyone comes up to speed on these they will take off. Here is some homework:
Intel X-25M Solid State Drive, Laptop Magazine "The fastest SSD on the market today can buy back a few minutes of your life everyday."
Intel X25-M SSD: Intel Delivers One of the World's Fastest Drives, Anandtech " The implications of the X25-M are tremendous. I mentioned before that it is the great equalizer between the notebook and desktop, you can finally have a desktop usage experience on your notebook if you've got one of these in there (or a SLC SSD)." "What Intel did with the X25-M is show the world what is possible with MLC flash. You get better than SLC performance, at lower than SLC prices. Despite that, the absolute only thing that bothers me about Intel's X25-M is the price. Although Intel is totally justified in pricing the X25-M at $595, I was hoping for pricing inline with the JMicron based MLC SSDs. At $300 - $400 this would be a no brainer for any enthusiast, and honestly even at $595 it's worth considering if you have other drives for data storage." "Intel didn't start the SSD revolution but it sure did kick it into high gear."
Intel X25-M 80GB SATA Solid State Drive, Intel Ups The Ante, Hot Hardware "In typical fashion, Intel has stepped up big behind SSD technology and once again upped the ante with a breakout product that literally leaves the current competitors folding at the table, at least for this round." "... you certainly get what you pay for with Intel's new SSD. Though it might be twice the price, in many applications, it offers more than 2X the performance of any other MLC solid state disk that we've tested to date." --Hot Hardware "Editor's Choice Award"--
Intel's New SSD Drive Delivers Blazing Fast Performance, PC World "Finally, a solid-state drive arrives that can capitalize on the theoretical advantages solid-state memory offers as compared with hard disk drives." "Intel's release certainly livens things up, and makes SSD potentially far more interesting for both consumers and enterprises alike--especially given the potential power savings SSD drives can offer."
Intel X25 80GB Solid-State Drive Review, Extremetech "Intel's new SSDs offer blistering performance, no noise and low power. What's not to like? How about price?" "We're not ones to use hyperbolic language often, but the overall performance we see with the Intel X25-M is astonishing, particularly in RAID 0. Sure, it's pricey, but we can now put to bed the issues that we've seen with other solid-state drives. The Intel drive is the fastest storage you can get for real world apps." --Extremetech "Approved Award"--
Intel's X25-M solid-state drive, Tech Report "More than a decade of core-logic chipset design also gives Intel the storage controller mojo necessary to craft a wicked-fast SSD architecture. The X25-M delivers on both fronts, with low power consumption that should make notebook users swoon and truly inspiring performance with some workloads."
Intel's X25-M Solid State Drive Reviewed : Intel's First Flash SSD Ready for Vertical Take-Off, Tom's Hardware "Conclusion: X25-M Strikes Hard!" "... the true secret behind the stunning results of the X25-M is the new controller" "Intel still has to prove that it can deliver this great-looking product sample to the mainstream market in quantities. If it does, it'll be having Samsung's lunch."
Intel X25-M 80GB Solid State Hard Drive Review, PC Perspective "The Intel X25-M 80GB SSD is screaming fast and blows away all of previous best storage options!" --PC Perspective "Gold Award"--
The ultimate Solid State Disk, Intel wins again, and Intel discrete graphic cards to come soon.October 12, 2008 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
First of all I will say: I don't own this device....YET!
But as a computer & network engineer, I read tech docs all the time and thought I'd throw in my 2c worth, so any newbies out there might know what they are looking at here.
THIS IS THE SSD OF NOW.
Although made with inferior MLC technology (SLC is the one to aim for), Intel has shown the way to all other SSD manufacturers. I don't know of a faster (read performance anyway) SLC device.
The main reason for this leap in performance is the inclusion of a traditional 'cache', which buffers incoming and outgoing data requests, as the computer orders. Other SSD manufacturers don't bother with this feature set....yet.
The other reason is Intel's own proprietary controller.
So, here is hoping that prices will drop soon, and unless you can afford an SLC device, or this one, avoid SSD altogether for now.
Hope that helps somebody out there....(rather than getting burnt with poor MLC investments like myself)
