Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Apple's AirPort Extreme wireless networking products lets you surf the Internet from almost anywhere in your home or business, and enables schools to provide Internet access to multiple students without installing expensive cabling. With AirPort Extreme-enabled Macintosh systems, it's a snap to exchange files or play multiplayer games at data transfer rates of up to 54 megabits per second. And because AirPort Extreme uses radio waves for communication, it can even work through walls.Even with its increased performance AirPort Extreme is compatible with the industry-standard 802.11b wireless networking protocol, which means all AirPort products, as well as Wi-Fi certified 802.11b wireless products, will work with AirPort Extreme. For higher performance you need to have both the Airport Extreme Card and the AirPort Extreme base Station. The range of AirPort Extreme is up to 50 feet at 54 Mbps and up to 150 feet at 11 Mbps. Since AirPort antennas are built into all new computers from Apple, all you need to add is an internal AirPort Extreme Card for each AirPort Extreme-ready system you want to bring onto a wireless network. This will allow you to join any of the thousands of Wi-Fi certified 802.11b wireless hot spots that are currently running in coffeehouse, bookstores, airports, and even some restaurants. If you want to create your own wireless network in your home or business just add an AirPort Extreme Base Station to communicate between your AirPort and AirPort Extreme-ready systems and the Internet, without wires. The AirPort Extreme Card can be installed only in computers that are AirPort Extreme ready. AirPort Extreme Cards cannot be used in AirPort ready computers with an AirPort Card slot.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect   July 24, 2008

Easy to install on my old eMac. I already had a wireless network working so from opening the box to being online took no more than 15 minutes.

5 out of 5 stars AirPort Express card easy to install   February 14, 2008
This card fits the 2005 flat panel iMac with the ball base. I had the AirPort Express card out of the box and installed in my iMac in less than 10 minutes. As soon as the software installed, the WiFi nearest me was connected. Speed is incredible. If you buy without software, download from Apple ahead of time. Give yourself some overlap time if you're changing e-mail addresses.

5 out of 5 stars Painless installation   June 1, 2007
I purchased this card for a first generation 20" iMac G5. Installation is simple: release three captive screws at the bottom of the iMac, remove the back cover and pedestal, and insert the card into the retainer cage. The card plugs into a socket, plus it has an antenna cable. That's all there is to it.

Once rebooted, the machine will automatically detect the card but it will not turn on wireless networking. If you are ready to connect to a network then it takes maybe a minute or two to turn it on and pick the wireless access point.

The iMac is now at the opposite side of the house (brick, steel, concrete condo) and wireless performance with the D-Link WBR-1310 is great.

Most new Macs already have an airport card, so this product is primarily aimed at people that own slightly older Macs with a built-in airport socket/cage. The price is really good, these cards retailed for $79 when they originally came out. And once you plug it in, it works forever, I am yet to run into somebody that has had an airport extreme card fail, not even DOA.

5 out of 5 stars Apple Airport Extreme Card   March 26, 2007
I just installed the Airport Extreme Card on my eMac and have moved the computer as far away from the router as it can possibly be in my house. The signal is very strong and it is working great. Highly recommend this product.
