cant review-see noteNovember 22, 2008 I can't realy review this drive. The one i got did not work with the Note Book I bought. Tried it on my other laptop and got an error message that dive was defective(maybe damaged in shipment). Got in touch with Targus and they were going to repair it, but I had already contacted Amazon about retuning it. Amazon was Great, took it back and credited my account..

Perfect for what I needed!November 19, 2008 After downloading Windows SP3, my dvd-rom drive no longer worked. I spent hours online with an "expert" from Microsoft trying to fix the problem. My time is worth more so I splurged and purchased the Targus DVD/CD-ROM drive. I plugged it into the usb port and it was ready for use! I had read one of the other reviews on Amazon (a one star review) that said the tray was flimsy. The tray on my internal drive is flimsy too so I figured how bad could it be? To my surprise, this product is well made and feels very solid. The tray is better quality than my internal DVD drive. Don't even hesitate to buy this product. You'll be happy you did. By the way, I'm still working with Microsoft on fixing my problem. They even admit that it has nothing to do with my hardware.

Exactly what the doctor orderedNovember 13, 2008 I recently bought a HP 2133 mini notebook which does not have a cd/dvd player internally. I decided this was the best thting to purchase because it does not require external power, you only need to plug it into a USB outlet on the computer. It worked perfectly and I would highly recommend this compact unit.
Targus is GreatNovember 7, 2008 This worked great for me, I haven't tried the dvd playback yet but it reads cd's nicely. I didn't have to install anything. I would have liked it to write dvd's, but I already have an internal dvd-r so this was fine for what it is. I once had an issue with a targus product and they sent me a new part for free with the shipping. It ended up being a good experience so I went with the name as well as the product on this one.
