Amazon.com Product Description BlueAnt's V1 is the world's first voice-controlled Bluetooth headset, allowing you to control most phone functions from the headset thanks to the integrated BlueGenie Voice Interface. Talk to it and it will reply, ask it for assistance and it will assist you in getting the right function. This amazingly small and lightweight headset eliminates the combinations of button pushes, button holds and flashing lights synonymous with advanced Bluetooth devices. One activation button provides you with total control of the V1's entire function menu system via an easy to use voice interface.
Control your phone's functions--including answering and making call--with the BlueAnt V1.
No longer will you have to deal with lengthy or confusing button pressing to access functionality on your cell phone. Instead, the V1 can be controlled with simple phrases like "pair headset," "call home," "volume up" and "accept call." And BlueGenie's voice synthesis capability enables the V1 to speak back to you, letting you know device settings including successful pairing of the headset, battery power level, and more. With voice dial and call answering capabilities, drivers can keep their hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road.
The V1 also incorporates dual microphones allowing for BlueAnt's patented Voice Isolation Technology, a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) software solution that uses advanced techniques to separate the user's voice signal from all other sounds, enhancing and isolating all frequencies that affect voices coming into and out of the headset. This results in outstanding environmental noise reduction, echo cancellation and wind noise protection.
The BlueAnt V1 works with Bluetooth version 2.1 and its multi-point technology allows connecting two cell phones at the same time. Automatic reconnect also finds the last cell phone or device paired, and automatically reconnects. It includes several ear gels for an optimal in-ear fit, as well as an over-the-ear clip for added security. It also offers an innovative tie clip lets you attach the V1 headset to your shirt or cuff when not in use.
Works well indoors and decent in my car but quality suffers in the windDecember 1, 2008 This headset is very light and fits my ear well. It's comfortable to wear but if you wear over-the-ear glasses the ear clip can interfere with your normal fit. I usually wear wraparound sunglasses so it's not an issue for me.
Sound quality is very, very good indoors, and works pretty well in my luxury car (better than the built-in Bluetooth, at least with my iPhone 3G). Outdoors I have trouble hearing people if there is even a little bit of wind. Changing the headset's noise mode did little to change the overall quality.
My experience with battery life has not been good - the average life seems pretty short (maybe three+ hours of talk time before it starts beeping). Since the battery is non-removable, the headset is not useable while the battery is charging. It charges using a mini-USB type of adapter that comes as a small adapter from the more standard, slightly larger mini-USB plug. Good news - if your phone uses a standard USB adapter (i.e. RAZR or most HTC phones) then you only need to take the adapter. Bad news - better not lose the small adapter!
One feature I absolutely love: you can turn off the stupid blue flashing light! Now I can wear my headset without looking like I'm trying to avoid being crashed into by a low-flying plane. Unfortunately, you have to turn it off each time you use the headset - it will turn itself back on (the default) every time you turn the headset off or put it on the charger. This is annoying but better than having to simply put up with the flashing light...
The voice recognition works well if you're in a quiet environment. I have found that background voices (e.g. from a television announcer) will confuse the voice recognition. It works great in my car or office environments. You can use it to dial a handful of speed-dial numbers directly, or you can instruct the headset to activate your phone's voice-dialing function. This worked OK on my AT&T Tilt, but I haven't tried to see if there's a way to get this working with my new iPhone.
I go back and forth between using this if I need wireless and my Sennheiser wired headset when I also want to listen to music stored on my phone. Have to keep both so I can have a headset when the Blueant is on the charger again!
BlueAnt is sexy.November 29, 2008 BlueAnt is great. From the packaging to the design BlueAnt pays attention to details. A great product that could be perfect with a bit more effort.
Pros: Voice activated, easy to use, good customer support, sleek design. Comfortable and secure fit. Cons: Not optimized for iPhone, but it still works. Needs voice dialing feature (e.g. "dial 3-1-0-333-2121")
I bought this headset specifically for my iPhone and I enjoy using it, and If I ever need another headset, I will definitely buy it from BlueAnt.
BlueAnt V1 Voice-Controlled Bluetooth Headset (Silver)
Great features but just OK soundNovember 29, 2008 I love the features. Your ear talks to you, gives you the number of the caller. Lets you check the battery level. However the quality of the conversation is not as good as my older Z9. It's not just the ear piece (which I don't like as well). The commands are clear and loud. The conversation is much quieter and fuzzier.
BlueAnt V1 for Verizon CurveNovember 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really love this product. It works right out of the box. I charged it using the car charger that came with it. Nothing else to buy everything you need is included in the box. This device paired without any effort to my Blackberry Curve. The sound quality is excellent!! People dont even realize I am on a headset. It is amazing something so small can recognize voice commands. I highly recommend this product. I purchased this after using a Jabra BT250V. The range on the Jabra wasnt very good with my Curve, but the V1 is excellent. Very comfortable on my ear, a very close race between this and Jabra in terms of comfort. Everything else the V1 is far superior. Great buy for the money!
