1 out of 5 stars extra features that make for a lousy product   November 19, 2008

Do not buy the Airdrives INA099110 earphones.

This headset was what I was looking for; over the ear headphone with mic and pause/play control for the iPhone. But it included one one extra feature, a volume control. This addition is just a prime point of failure. When I got mine it was intermittent, but I slid the slider a few times and it cleared up. I kept earphones figuring that was that. But not so they continued to cut out from time to time. I even put a binder clip on the slider to prevent the cutting out but at last even that kludge does not work, so in the trash.

The volume control can hardly be considered a needed feature. It cannot make the audio any loader then what comes out of the iPhone. If you need to mute pressing the pause button makes more sense. And if a lower volume is needed then a more refined control is at the end of the cord on the iPhone.

5 out of 5 stars I really like this headset.   September 7, 2008
You know going in that this is not a headset made for symphonic realistic sound reproduction. They allow ambient noise to enter your ear and this is a good thing. I use them when riding my bicycle or walking my dog and it is important to hear oncoming traffic from behind or bikes coming from behind etc. I can also sit with my wife on the patio read a book and have a casual conversation while listening to my music in the background.

Now because the ear piece is not jammed into your ear right next to the eardrum, it does loose a bit of quality from the original source. However, the resulting music is quite enjoyable and certainly loud enough to be heard with acceptable quality of highs and lows for music and clarity of voice in songs. The volume adjustment control on the microphone in the cord under your chin is very handy since you do not have to fish out your iPhone and unlock it and then lower the volume and of course, the phone just rings comfortably in your ear to let you know you have a phone call and you can either answer it or ignore it and send it straight to your message service. I have this headset and the Etymotic version which cost twice as much and while the Etymotic is a cleaner sound, it is less functional in every day use since it literally blocks out all other sound around you.

I can see a case for owning both as the Etymotic are very nice when you want to isolate yourself from the world and be totally immersed in your music or movie and there are many times when this is the case. But if you can only afford one, this would be the one as it is the most useful in the most situations and still produces a very acceptable level and quality of music and song or movie dialogue.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly As Adveritised   August 19, 2008
I bought my Airdrives INA099110 for use with my iphone and they performed exactly as advertised. I have absolutely no complaints!

5 out of 5 stars Had a great 10k run with the earphone   August 18, 2008
I just ran the 10k at San Diego wearing the Airdrives and I got to say it work as advertised. I can hear everything around me and still enjoy my music. I had to crank up the volume up quite a bit but I'm not one bit worry about damaging my hearing throughout the long run.

1 out of 5 stars Really poor   August 15, 2008

The engineers on this product need to go back to the drawing board.

Forget the weird fit and the funky ear speaker design which may fit someone but certainly not me.

The speakers have no range at all.... no bass... no treble...just midrange...

Reminds me of the early 9 volt battery transistor radio sound from the 60's

They get a solid "F" in my book.

Heck, I'm disappointed in myself for even buying these. What was I thinking????
