Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router (DIR-825) is the addition to the award-winning Xtreme N product family. The dual band technology in the DIR-825 supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless signals at the same time. This allows you to check e-mail and browse the Internet using the 2.4GHz band while simultaneously streaming High-Definition (HD) movies and other media on the 5GHz band. The DIR-825 is designed for users looking to get a true HD wireless connection that can handle multiple HD video streams throughout the house, while being backward compatible with existing 802.11g and 802.11a products.

4 out of 5 stars A major boost in performance   December 1, 2008
Picked this up after my old Netgear router was making a high-pitched whine and I had had it with my Airport Express' constant dropped signals. I then proceeded to wait to intall it because of all the warnings about the complicated set-up. When I finally did get around to it, it went VERY smoothly. There's a decent "wizard" in the included software that I think got everything working in a matter of minutes. It would be nice if they included printed instructions, but the electronic manual on the CD is pretty good and helped me sort out a little confusion I had (that was of my own making - the wizard had actually set everything up properly).

My system: Cable modem, one wired desktop computer, one wi-fi laptop, one Airport Express (for streaming music to my stereo), and a wi-fi iPod touch.

The ONLY difficult part of the setup was the Airport, but that was the fault of that device, not the router (I couldn't reprogram it for the new network remotely, so I had to re-set it and reprogram it over ethernet). Now I get ZERO dropout, not even the microwave interferes with the music stream.

The router is silent and the lights are a cool and un-annoying blue. I live in a Brooklyn apartment building and it serves up a great signal even out to the elevator. On the flip-side, there's plenty of security options so my neighbors are hopefully not snooping on my network.

I have not tried the USB port, but am looking forward to using it for serving up media to my yet-to-be-purchased netbook. I will update this when I do.

4 out of 5 stars Works on four wireless computers   November 24, 2008
We have used D-Link routers in the past and have not had problems with them. So when I saw this new router out I thought we'd give it a try since we were just getting DSL. As other reviewers have mentioned, the setup went pretty easily (and I am no techie; lol).

We have a total of four computers in different places in the house and they are all set up wirelessly and work flawlessly. The speeds are about the same everywhere in the house. On one computer I stream movies through Netflix and there have only been a few times when they have stopped and I've had to wait for them to catch up (our DSL is 3 to 6 mb). We're also considering getting a box to stream Netflix movies on our TV and I'm pretty sure this router would handle that.

All in all, I'm very happy with this router. Basically it works and that's what's important!

5 out of 5 stars Has everything   November 20, 2008
Dual band and gigabit all in one makes this an ideal router. Setup was easy, the wireless connection was good and the obnoxious lights are at a minimum. All of this comes at a premium but these features are important and the combination of gigabit and wireless-N is long overdue.

5 out of 5 stars It works! (that's all I wanted)   November 20, 2008
I threw away a brand new Link-sys product, just because the set-up was a disaster.

This D-link was up and running in just a few minutes. In a couple of hours, I had three laptops, a networked printer and my TIVO all humming.

I had previously installed Cisco's Network Magic program on my PC's and that may have helped a bit, too.

As an obvious "non-techie" I highly recommend the product.

4 out of 5 stars Workin' Well   November 19, 2008
The install went fine, be sure to read the manual and instructions first, before you try to set this up behind another router, as I did, including following the instructions from the manufacturer of your main router. You may need to re-boot it at least once.
I really don't have much to add over what has already been presented by the prior reviewers. I have not had any wired or wireless security issues.
This is the first D-Link router I have had, and it seems to be just as good as the Linksys and Netgear wireless routers I have had. I am pleased with the range and performance of this device so far. A feature I have yet to explore is the USB port device setup -- I plan to connect a laser printer at some point to be shared by the PCs on my home network.
