Pro510XL is the one to buyAugust 6, 2008 Hi I recently purchased for 4 Uniden 510XL CB radios for our 4WD Off-road Club as prizes for our summer raffle. My decision was based on my 4 year personal experience of owning a Pro510XL in my Jeep on "Steroids" and using it under real world off-road field conditions with no problems what so ever. My fellow club members also always comment how clear my radio transmissions sound to them. FYI I use a tuneable 1/4 wavelength antenna (i.e. firestick). We use CB radio to coomunicate between our vehicles while on the trail, often out of sight of each other and rely on them for safety reasons and emergency communication. With 55+ CB radio equipped off-road vehicles I can unequivocally say that Cobra radios are the worst and often don't last two years. We have about 11 vehicles equipped with various models of Uniden CB radios and I have never heard anyone complaining about theirs. They seem to work all of the time. In my opinion you can't go wrong with a Uniden 510ProXL.It's fool proof and easy to operate without taking your eyes off the trail. It's small size makes it easy to install. I also see that the Radioshack CB's seem to work ok too. Deadbear

Excellent CB for the money. I installed it in my Wrangler, behind the tuffy console. I mated it with a tunable Firestik firefly on the front bumper. SWR around 1.5. Works great.
A great starter, and a great finisher. This is a good CB.December 20, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I ordered this CB, I really didn't want to buy another compact model, but in this case I'm glad I did. Don't let the small size scare you away. The audio is loud and crisp, and you get tuning knob that goes "click, click, click" just like the big ones. This is one case where you don't need to spend a lot of money to get a great product. This one walks and talks every bit as good as the big (EXPENSIVE)CB's, for a third of the price. If there is one negative, it would be the Microphone cord. It could be longer. You wont be disapointed with the PRO510XL.
Great basic CB with a loud internal speakerNovember 15, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have two of these and they've taken a beating for 4 years. One has been in my Jeep CJ-7 that is mostly driven offroad. The Jeep shakes, rattles (haven't rolled it yet) and the CB works like new. The speaker is also very loud which is nice when the top of the Jeep is off. The other CB is in a work pickup and has been flawless as well, it's mounted on a flimsy ash tray that causes it to vibrate all the time (which can't be good for it).
Just make sure to tune your antenna with a meter otherwise you pose the chance of ruining the CB.

Purchased this radio for my Mazda Miata 'cause I needed something small. Hooked it up to a Wilson Little Wil antenna and it works great. Nice radio for a small price.
