Navigation The nuevi 350 is first and foremost a personal GPS device. Wherever you go -- in your car or on foot-- the device offers extremely accurate position data, thanks to a high-sensitivity integrated GPS receiver by SiRF and WAAS-enabled, 12-satellite reception. Combined with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico the nuevi 350 provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and touchscreen control-- making it easy to find your way anywhere. Plus, the unique "text-to-speech" feature calls out turns by street name, and you can choose from either 2D or 3D mapping perspectives when you're viewing your route on the display. Additionally, the nuevi 350 is compatible with Garmin's GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver*, which allows users to avoid traffic tie-ups by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route.
As mentioned, the nuevi 350 comes packed with mapping data for North America, but you can can also load up your custom points of interest. Set up proximity alerts for school zones, safety cameras, and more using Garmin's free POI (points of interest) loader program (available from garmin.com).

The device automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way.
Tools for the Journey Navigation is just part of the journey, and the nuevi 350 is one of the first devices to recognize that. The built-in "Travel Kit" offers an MP3 player, an audio book player from Audible.com, a jpeg-format picture viewer, a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator.
In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language -- right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit's text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.
Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest-- places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nuevi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. The unit also audibly announces the name of upcoming streets-- letting you keep your eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. And if you stray off course, the nuevi 350 automatically calculates the quickest way to get back on track.
*Traffic services available only in select cities where RDS-TMC coverage exists. Requires the GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver and subscription fee to enable traffic capability.

HelpAugust 27, 2008 I have used the Garmin 350 on a couple of trips and found it to be very helpful. Since I am alone, the "text to speach" feature is essential so I can watch the road and not stare at the screen. Having the street to turn read to you is very desireable. My one complaint is the lack of suitable operating instructions both in the package as well as on the web. They are far too basic and do not help to set up and learn how to use the navigator. I neede help from the family to learn how to use the devise.
200 bucks does what alot more expensive units do, and prevents road rage from being lost, and gas savings !August 27, 2008 Excellent product, simple to use, connects to multiple satelite signals fast, speaks out the names of roads. Also at 200 bucks with free shipping, this product is a must have for any person who gets lost or wants to not get lost in the future. A person's time of getting lost is worth something besides just burning extra expensive gas of driving around blindly trying to find where you are trying to go. You won't be wasting extra gas being lost anymore with this product. Also you won't be wasting precious time in your life when you could be at the place you are trying to get to. Many people including me get "nervous" when being lost, police can pull you over, give you a ticket for driving to slow, or making a U-turn in front of somewhere, or going around and around in circles. All of these horrible things are prevented with the use of this GPS unit, or any other GPS unit for that matter. This gps unit just seems to be a better product then other GPS units for the price of 200 bucks. Mp3 player to, plus jpeg. Also for the price, you just cannot find another GPS unit that speaks out the name of the road, the others are around 300. This seems to be the lowest cost GPS unit, that does what alot more expensive GPS units do. Also you can put flags on the screen so for example I have flags all around the outside of the "ghetto" or high crime part of town, how ever you want to say it, so I know exactly where I am and that I am not near the "bad part" of town. Plus in bad weather where you can barely see the turns, tells you what turns to make and everything. This GPS unit will definetely pay for itself, can keep you away from bad parts of town, prevent you from burning expensive gas in your car from driving around being lost, and tell you exactly how to get to addresses, businesses, meet friends anywhere, and will tell you exactly how to get there. Many, many possibilities!!!! So in summary, saves gas money, keeps u safer, prevents part of your life from being wasted, prevents "road rage", helps you look much less suspicious to police, and gets you to places ON TIME. Great unit ! Bargain for 200 bucks ! plus no sales tax. Use the free shipping thing.
I highly recommend ! It is definetely a life saver and gas saver and helps keep u safe from cops, and safe from the "ghetto" or "high crime area"
Good product but after update takes time to acquire sateliteAugust 27, 2008 After 5weeks of purchase this product its working excellent, gives decent shortcuts if shortance distance selected from navigation. Recenlty moved to VA and roads are bad here with very limited signs of streets/city. Nuvi has helped me a lot to understand the directions. Sometimes I feel it saves gas and mileage to give shortest distance when I am not in urgent to go I use this option. I think POI are old, maybe 2006 POI's. I updated software from ver 5.1 and maps 2009, initially it was problem to acquire satellite and I have reboot, but after it acquires within 1-2 min. I did not see any differences with versions, but you can update only maps to 2009 and wait until stable software is released.
Good product.August 27, 2008 The GPS is a good product, easy to use and helpful when on the road. I do wish that Garmin would have enclosed a booklet of GOOD instructions with the GPS. I had to run - on its Website - a voluminous manual for the information required to get started; much of the material in the manual, however, is not useful for a novice.
Great GPS for great valueAugust 26, 2008 Its a great GPS for the price range around $200. It has good re-routing. I didn't had any problem for my first trip from SF to LA.
Its a great GPS.
