Customer Reviews:
not much different from my earlier oneNovember 21, 2008 First of all, the display looks slightly different from what's shown here-- those arrangement of icons. I don't know why. Maybe it's a different version I got. I wish that I order the other design(the mask one) where the numbers on display might be slightly larger or clearer. This font and color on this display is too thin to be seen if not close up. Secondly, it do seems to have some connection problem from time to time as mentioned by another reviewer on a different model. Sometimes, it powered up after you turned on your car but stayed in a silent mode. Pushing buttons or using remote all got no responses. If you adjust it during which the power is cut off, then it suddenly works. This is only the second day I'm testing it. This problem is intermittent. Last, the sound. I was not able to tell the different in sound quality between my older one which I got two years ago from this one when using the USB as source. It still does have slight static noise as with this kind of devices. I tried using the phone-in as the source using the cable that came with it by connecting it to my iNano, the sound is not as good as the USB as sound seems to be covered. This is opposite from another review I read on a different model(the spaceship one) of this product from the same manufacture. He was saying that using the line input gets him much better sound.
I did not see a manual that comes with it, so I don't know how to use the remote other than the Channels and vol+. I tried pressing on those numbers but got no response.
Great little MP3 player for the carNovember 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After just three days, this arrived for just $4.95 shipping from Illinois to San Diego, CA, and is well worth the ~$22 total I paid.
The iPod like control has some pretty basic functions: fast forward a track, go back a track, adjust frequency up or down, and the center button controls play/pause.
The lit display scrolls the name of the mp3 playing and shows what frequency the FM transmitter is set to.
The remote is IR, so has to be aimed at the unit face. I probably won't use it at all. My benchmark for sound quality is a Griffin iTrip hooked up to an iPod. This unit is a very small step down from that, but a big step up from other FM transmitters I've used with an iPod.
I'm using a 2 GB SD card (which sticks out about 1/4 inch), but haven't tried the USB or line-in.
When powered up, it remembers what track was last playing (but not the position within the track) and starts playing that track automatically.
Altogether, a pretty neat little compact device for ~$20. I'll probably just leave it plugged into the cigarette lighter of my car. It'll also be great for when I take a trip somewhere and need some entertainment in the rental car.
Nov 28, 2008 edit: After using this for awhile, I'm still very happy with my purchase, but noticed one flaw with this device. Any recordings that have their sound levels near maximum will sound distorted on this (by comparison, my iPod was able to handle them with no problems). The solution to this is to normalize the sound levels of your MP3 tracks down to about -3 dB. If you don't have the software to do that, you may be a little bit disappointed, depending on what the sound levels are of your MP3s.
Also, I forgot to mention that the main body of this device has a pivoting mount, so you can easily position it to suit your own preference - another neat little feature.
