Buy Grado SR60 and save yourself $30November 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This one is overrated.
I own both SR60 and HD555. However, HD555 is somewhat disappointing. Sound is veiled when connected straight to a computer or mp3 player. For vocals, it sounds like someone is singing behind a curtain. It can even be difficult to understand the lyrics sometimes. When I connected this through an amplifier (one self made and one "bit head"), this goes away, and every word sounds clear and crispy. As a comparison SR60 doesn't care much whether amplified or not, and always performs very well.
So my point is: if you have to use this with an amplifier, why not buying something as good (or better) that doesn't require an amplifier? For similar sound quality (in my opinion, actually SR60 is slightly better), SR60 is at least $30 cheaper and doesn't need to be amplified, should be a much better deal if all you care is sound quality.
excellent headphonesOctober 28, 2008 Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile headphones satisfied all demands of a picky guy, like me. Its bass will bring a full deep spirit of whatever kind of music you listening. Overall, Senn HD-555 is a wonderful and good deal phone.
Incredible its like real AudiophileOctober 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this plus a Asus Xonar DX sound card then fired them up together and the first song I played was Salt Shaker by Ying Yang Twins and bass never sounded better. Was like those high end car audio even better actually.
This has got to be the lowest deepest bass I ever heard in my life. Plus mids and highs are awesome. This is worth every penny as Sennheiser rules.
This also plays Trance music great anyone who says these cannot play music are sadly mistaken. Please note do not run this on any Ipod or integrated pc audio you are just robbing yourself of what these headphones can really do. I recommend you get a proper sound card like Asus Xonar DX or D2X then you will really see the true quality.
Excellent value!!!October 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Almost as good as the very good 595s. These are a real bargain. Easy to drive. IPOD friendly. Comfortable. Well made. Good SQ. Seem to be durable. Sound is not as laid back as 650s or many other Senns. Still, I wish it had just a bit more punch (I like rock).
The price seemed expensive, but when I listened to them, that went out the window!October 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When I first started looking at headphones, I swore that I wouldn't spend this much, but I can truly say that I am glad I did. These are my first pair of Sennheiser's and they are worth every penny.
First, of course, is the sound quality. These are simply amazing. They provide the highs evenly, without making them sound twangy, or just over bearing. It is a good mix of soft and hard highs. The only thing I wish about the sound quality is the bass. I am a bass guy, and these provide quite a bit of bass, but just not quite enough for me. Then again, I am bass hungry, and these are bassy enough for me. They provide an excellent mix of highs and lows.
Second is the comfort level of these. I think my friend put it best. He put them on and he said "I feel like I am wearing a cloud on my head." They are lightweight and don't weigh your head down at all. Also the padding is phenomenal, and surprisingly not hot. I can wear these for hours and not have any sore spot or anything after the session is over.
I don't have any problems with these headphones at all. Just wish the bass was there a little more, but the mix of the highs and lows is very pleasant. I feel like I will now always stay with the Sennheiser name after these headphones.
