Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Extreme Isolation Headphones were invented by a prominent studio session drummer. After many long and frustrating recording sessions as a drummer in Studio City, CA, he knew there had to be a better way. Drummers, studio engineers, stage and studio musicians, and anyone who wants serious sound isolation, owe it to themselves (and their ears!) to check out this product. I "I had to figure out a way to "get my ears" next to the recording engineer in the control room. I knew this would save me a lot of time and the frustration of stopping to listen to takes and retakes in the control room. It would also save

2 out of 5 stars Decent for rehearsal, terrible for mixing.   June 6, 2008

These will move around on your head if you are rocking. The plastic hinges are relatively weak, I have one pair that has broken on one side. Otherwise the bass is good for headphone oriented rehearsal and recording, and the isolation makes practice much easier on the ears. However I TAKE SERIOUS ISSUE WITH WHAT THEIR WEBSITE SAYS. They say they are great for critical mixing or some other such garbage. Don't ever mix on these, your mixes will sound like tinny crap. I wasted many hours mixing some songs on these only to have them sound like the bottom was dropped out on any other system. Poor quality drivers and strange resonances of the isolation chamber combine to deliver a poor quality reference environment. Okay for rehearsal, but only slightly better sounding than some Vic Firths.

3 out of 5 stars Not sure what all of the buzz is about   May 20, 2008

I was taking starting drum set lessons and looking for a good set of isolation headphones. The Direct Sound headsets had great reviews so I bought a pair. I can't say that I'm all that impressed. They do a good job of isolating, except when I turn my head. The headsets are constructed entirely of plastic and don't exert enough pressure to keep the ear cups from flexing. Once you turn your head you're left with a gap and the isolation is shot. Since my sheet music is to my left and not directly in front me, the flexing is a real issue. They may be fine for most purposes, just not mine. Also, considering the construction I really think that these things are over priced. I might have give these a 3.5, but Amazon doesn't half stars, so 3 stars it is.

5 out of 5 stars Extreme Isolation = Heaven in a Cubicle   April 29, 2008

I bought these to help me drown out noise of co-workers in a very open cubicle area. These are the best!

5 out of 5 stars Sweet isolation   February 18, 2008

I can listen to my music as loud as I want and my coworkers can listen to the office white noise uninterrupted. No longer does the sound from my ear buds bleed out and bothering others. These headphones have proven to be an excellent solution. They may seem a bit spendy but they work. The construction seems solid, I'm pretty hard on equipment. I'm always willing to pay for a quality product.

4 out of 5 stars Great isolation, not great audio sound.   December 2, 2007

I use these to record Drums. They do have excellent noise isolation. They don't have the best audio quality. A bit to much midrange, but OK. Compared to 'in ear' 28db isolation plugs, they do keep out any loud noise just as well. They do fit tight (on my average head) to help with isolation which causes ear fatigue after about 45 min of use. After an hour or more they really start to hurt the ears due to the pressure on them. Other than that they are what they say...Extreme Isolation...just the audio and comfort lacks.
