5 out of 5 stars Good Choice for the HomeStudio plus much more!!   July 27, 2008

These headphones are superb. I upgraded from some "noname" brand that where sold at our local music store. the detail level in both bass and treble are fantastic. I really enjoy working with these for a lengthy time and i dont have to turn up so loud since they are sealed very good! I dont feel they are as "airy" sounding as some senheiser's that i've had, BUT for me thats a good thing.

as an added bonus: they are easily powered by my Macbook or iPod ;-)

buy them if your serious about mixing recording listening or anything else regarding music!

4 out of 5 stars Great Sound - Awkward Cord.   July 1, 2008
I am listening to these right now - terrific sound quality! Great bass (for a change) balanced with good highs and midrange sound. The only caveat I have about them is that the cord has a built in spiral extension that about 18 inches from the left can. It is heavy enough that it is pulling my head to the side! While the extension is nice to have, I am not sure it is well placed or that useful. I am only four feet from the stereo system, so for me it is a hindrance. A standard 5 or 8 foot cord would have been perfect.

I took off one star because i am not sure I can see a situation where this cord is not a hindrance - You would almost have to have a separate support for it! The sound quality is so good that a solution is warranted.

5 out of 5 stars These are high quality cans used in the radio and tv industry   June 7, 2008
Broadcast studios look to use not only great sounding headphones but durable headphones.

If you ever watch Howard [Stern] TV you will see that these are the ones Artie Lang uses, and though I haven't noticed, I imagine they are the same as what Howard and Robin are using as well.

I work at Fox and these are what we used there when editing sound.

So the point is, these are among the best you can get.

I've had mine for about 10 years. I don't use them every day. The ear cushion covers have fallen off and I need to replace them, but they're still totally usable and still sound great, it's more of an aesthetic thing.

These might not be what you want if you are into hip-hop or metal, these are better for classical, jazz, classic rock, etc. imho.

On top of the headphones it says "Studio Monitor" and that is no b.s., that is what these are used for, especially radio studios. I imagine that many professional radio dj's use these both for the sound and the comfort.

You cannot go wrong with these if you are looking for ear-enclosing can style headphones. So I will add my 5 star review to the rest.

p.s. The one drawback is that they can be hot in the summer, but ALL can style headphones share that problem.

5 out of 5 stars Clear, clean well-balanced sound   April 29, 2008
My brother recommended this product. He's an on-air radio personality in LA and uses them constantly. He says they hold up very well in day to day studio abuse and keep on delivering quality sound. These are my second pair of Sonys, but a slight upgrade. I mix a lot of original music via headsets and require something that delivers flat frequency response. The MDR-7506s are lightweight, built well and deliver well balanced, uncolored sound. I've also noticed I don't have to crank up my output source as with other phones.
This product delivers what Sony claims and when these wear out, I will replace them with the same model.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Headphones   April 5, 2008
I have been using Sennheiser HD280 pro's for a couple years. They are mainly used in my studio, plugged into my keyboard. I wanted a pair of phones to use with my portable dvd player. Holy smokes, what a difference between the two. The HD280's seem "mellow" compared to the MDR-7506. The bass is really deep and the high end is sweeter with the Sony's. Great head set for the bucks. I'd buy another in a heartbeat!
