Not too bad.May 2, 2008 I have this item connected to the marine stereo(CDX-F50M)on my boat. Even though the box said it was not compatible with my particular Sony stereo I tried connecting it anyway and what do you know......IT WORKED!! I do have to admit, it is a little slow when it comes to scrolling through the albums and playlists but I like it because it keeps my ipod away from the outdoor elements. It was very reasonably priced too. Less than 8 bucks!!
you want your money back and compensation for being expose to itJanuary 2, 2008 I agree with all reviewers! The worse is that I'm stuck with a installed sony stereo is a super crapy ipod connection
Buy The XA-120IP InsteadNovember 13, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just installed this into Sony's XAV-W1 Video Deck. It worked, but it -reset randomly -only showed 1 line of text at a time -incompatible with other add-ons like Sirius & HD Radio unless used with $100 XA-C40 Adaptor -terrible navigation lag & user interface -No video BOTTOM LINE: Skip This unless You Are Desperate For any iPod integration P.S. As I write this there is supposedly an upgrade model (Sony XA-120IP), but I do not know what upgrades were made or what decks are compatible with the new model. Good Luck!
Returning mine for all the reasons citedJuly 23, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I wish I had read the reviews here before buying my Sony car stereo with this adapter, which I am having uninstalled and returned tomorrow.
One aspect of the "ignition reset" not mentioned by other writers is that the iPod interface mode changes when the ignition is turned off. What this means is that there are three ways to navigate through your iPod songs: Album, Artist, and Playlist. Like many people, I prefer to navigate by Playlist. Well, every time the ignition is turned off (basically, as soon as the warning beeps sound, telling you to take off the face plate if you don't want your radio stolen), the unit reverts to Album navigation.
That wouldn't be as much of a pain, except for another funky glitch: switching from Album->Artist->Playlist will cause the iPod to restart at the first playlist on your iPod! So, if you go to the trouble of disconnecting your iPod when you shut off your vehicle, you'll still end up resetting to the beginning the second you want to navigate by anything other than album.
Oh, and that warning tone I mentioned? It's just annoying. Really, now -- how many people remove the face plate of their system every time? I'm sure there are some, but why not provide the ability to disable the warning chimes?
All in all this interface unit is barely adequate. The only reason I would use it over the AUX jack would be to have my iPod charge while playing. The navigation and usability are about as anti-iPod as you can get.
Simply horribleJuly 20, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is probably the worst piece of Sony equipment I have ever purchased. Save your money and buy a headunit with ipod integration built in.
-Navigation through your ipod library is near impossible. -Unit resets EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU SHUT YOUR CAR!!! NO RESUME!!! -No display on ipod when hooked up to this unit, just the corny xplod logo. -Cannot use ipod controls when hooked up to make navigation somewhat feasible. -Text display on headunit will only display artist OR song OR album NOT ANY COMBINATION which is pretty much useless.
The only good thing about this unit is that it charges the ipod and has good sound quality (compared to an FM modulator).
I am using this on the Sony f-605x headunit (an amazing piece of equipment) it's a real shame this product could not integrate the ipod into such a great stereo. I never thought I would be complaining about Sony stuff but STAY FAR FAAAAR AWAY FROM THIS JUNK!
