Product Description This convenient transmitter lets you enjoy your iPod music wirelessly on a compatible Bluetooth sound system. It doesn't use a battery, and draws minimal power from the iPod. Basic functions can be controlled from a compatible Bluetooth headset with AVRCP compatibility. The compact size and simple operation make the TMR-BT8IP transmitter a must-have accessory for true music lovers. It is designed for any iPod with dock connector (30-pin).
Great little gadgetAugust 28, 2008 I looked at a lot of adapters online and read a lot of reviews before ordering this little dongle. I'm known as Inspector Gadget since I have so many. I've had it for several weeks now. This one I just love. It works well, it's easy to set up, the range is enough in my two floor apartment, even if I'm in the basement and it's on the second floor. In fact it leads to having to hunt for where I left it. I use the Sony DR BT21G stereo headset with it and the sound is unexpectedly good. One thing. I read that someone was annoyed by it pausing frequently then resuming play. I have two cell phones. One is the LG enV 2 and the other the Moto Q9c. If I have the headset paired with the LG and receive a call, the music is put on hold while I talk on the phone and resumes when I hang u; neat! But if I have it paired with the Moto Q9c, it's constantly interrupted for a few to many seconds every time the thing notifies that there's an email or goes out of service. I have to make sure that I disconnect the phones if I want to listen to music without interruption, especially the Moto Q. The headphones are great, too. There is volume adjustment, pause, ff and reverse or go to the beginning or end of a song. I highly recommend this product. It's easy to set up and use and the quality of sound is great. Also the built in battery prevents clutter and doesn't seem to drain the iPod much. BTW, it's a 30GB video iPod.
Compact and capableAugust 25, 2008 Among a few options, I chose this model because of (1) low physical profile and (2) no need to charge the adapter.
(1) This unit has very low profile (1.0 inch width), and it can be connected to the iPod in a protector case. I am not sure whether other less expensive adaptors have similarly low profile around the connector, but this unit easily connects to my iPod in a heavy duty case (iPod 5G in a Speck rubber case).
(2) This unit has its power supplied by the iPod's internal battery and it has no need to charge.
One observation. The bluetooth signal strength from this unit is pretty strong, about comparable to that from iMac, or a tad stronger. In my experience, bluetooth signal from MacPro is the weakest, followed by Macbook, and then iMac. In this scale, the radio signal from this unit is pretty strong. (There are several websites describing how to boost MacPro's bluetooth signal strength, but this mod was not applicable to my 2008 model, and so my MacPro is unmodified.)
Besides, this unit is very easy to use and pair with my headphone (Sony DR-BT50, which I also recommend, and have written a positive review on Amazon) and it provides excellent system together.
The negative points:
This unit sticks out from the iPod for about an inch. The connection is firm but it is not latched like the iPod USB cable, so it pulls out straight without having to push the unlatch button. This hasn't been an inconvenience but it could potentially be a source of annoyance.
Overall, this adapter will be very useful until a new model of iPod with built-in bluetooth support is released. I hope Apple will do so soon.
Beware -- don't be dupedAugust 24, 2008 Apparently, this item works with other Sony products only. I tried to use it to pair my ipod classic and my ipod touch with my new bluetooth (a2dp) handsfree speaker. I even brought them all into a Sony store and wasted time there with virtually every employee. The bottom line: It will NOT pair with my speaker and probably won't pair with yours if it's not a Sony.
Love itAugust 20, 2008 have it now for less than 24 hours & (sofar) love it. using it on iPhone 3G with Sony DR-BT30Q Stereo Bluetooth Headset (@ home) & Sony MEX-BT2500 Bluetooth Car Stereo. every time I hook it up on iPhone 3G, it complains that it's not meant to be used with this phone & insist on going to airplane mode, just ignore the warning & click "no". ipod works great (including avrcp) & so does pandora; since pandora uses 3G or wi-fi it will drain the battery quite a bit; but what can you do? wish apple allowed built in support for streaming stereo music using bluetooth. Anyway, highly recommend it.
Great Device especially for iphone / iphone 3g owners!August 18, 2008 I can confirm that this device does work with the iphone / iphone 3g regardless of the incompatiablity message that appears when you plug it in.
I had some minor issues with getting everything working, but once you do, it rocks so much!
I followed the same instructions posted from a prior review but it didn't exactly work for me. I either had the call capability or music capability but not both.
I did this instead and then it worked for me:
1. Pair S9 with Iphone / Iphone 3g (as headset). 2. Pair S9 with Sony TMR adapter (as headphones). 3. Turn off Sony TMR adapter but do NOT unplug. 4. Unpair S9 from Iphone / Iphone 3g (as headset). 5. Pair S9 with Iphone / Iphone 3g (as headset).
This worked for me and now my S9s work both as stereo headphones and bluetooth headset.
The adapter works flawlessly and I have no complaints. The adapter allows me to enjoy my Iphone 3g the way I wanted to.
