Truly a workhorseOctober 31, 2008 I have had this sharpener for about 4 weeks and can rave enough about it. The first task was to sharpen 96 artist grade color pencils. And one after another went through without a hitch. And it puts a wonderful point on the pencil with NO BREAKAGE.
The next task was to sharpen all of my graphite pencils, about 75. And presto they all came out first class with nice long points. I have been working on several large drawings with a lot of shading. This sharpener has been winner. Keeps me working without any breakage or down time.
The cutting head withdraws when the point is done so there is no overcutting, however the motor keeps running until you take your pencil out of the unit.

This seems to be double listed and Panasonic keeps changing the model number, but just go for "Auto-Stop" and save yourself aggravation. It's recommended by illustrators, who use a sharpener more in a month than most of us will in a year. It works faster than you'd expect and it will last longer if you don't overdo it each time (which people tend to do if a sharpener is backed against a wall, push as if trying to break through). It seems some people have gotten a "lemon" but this is the only sharpener I'll use - as I was told, buy this one and when it dies, buy another one. This part of life is simple.
Yes, it does work.October 22, 2008 I have thrown away so many pencils that I now wish I didn't. I thought they weren't good until I realized that it was the pencil sharpeners. So after I made up my mind to add a few more dollars, I read the reviews and bought me a good sharpener; I received this one yesterday, and I am very happy with my purchase. I even tried a few of those pencils with soft casings and they were sharpened with the same smooth finish. I say if you need a good pencil sharpener and can afford this one, go for it.
great pencil sharpenerOctober 12, 2008 It may cost more than other sharpeners, but it is well worth it! Full of power and always perfect. Very sturdy, and I like the suction cups on the base to keep it in place - you do not need to hold it down!
I love this Pencil SharpenerOctober 11, 2008 I'm an artist and require a very sharp point on my pencils and can't stand it when they are sharpened off-center. I have had a lot of different sharpeners in my life and this is the very best one. The point is wonderfully sharp, it is never off center, it is rather quiet (not like some of the growling monstrosities I have owned) and the little suction cups allow you to have one-handed sharpening. I am very satisfied.
