Product Description Initially, a portable DVD player is a miracle device for families planning long car trips. It has been found that placing one of these with your child in the back seat of your car significantly reduces in-car noise. That's because children love to view their favorite films and videos on a portable. But it's also great when you're sitting out on your porch or patio. You can take it with you on camping trips. The Audiovox D2017 can play DVD and CD disc media including CDR and CDRW with MP3 encoded music files. It can be powered at home, from your car's cigarette lighter adapter, or (for up to 3 hours) through its rechargeable li-ion battery. At only 1.5 pounds, the Audiovox D2017 portable DVD player boasts a 10.2" widescreen and built-in stereo speakers. Take it with you where ever you go and enjoy! Built-In 3-Way Card Reader and USB Port Output port for adding optional earphone or headphone for private listening Plays DVD / CD / MP3 CD / CDR / CDRW / Picture CD Convenient Credit Card Sizes Wireless Remote Control Includes Rechargeable Battery, AC adapter, Car Adapter, and A/V connect cables; Audiovox 90-Day Limited Warranty

Note: This review applies to the Audiovox D2017PK. Not sure if the D2088 is the same or not...
Pros: ---- * You get a 10 inch 800*480 resolution screen, a bag and two headphones for the money.
* The player is very compact. It is as big as it needs to be to contain the screen and no bigger.
* The battery is external which means you can get an additional battery, if you can find one.
* The player supports PAL format DVDs and has a region free hack available. (See other review).
Cons: ----
* I did a side by side comparison with this player and the Philips PET1030. By comparison, the Audiovox has pale colors and a less sharp screen.
* No portable DVD has good audio quality using the built in speakers. The Audiovox has average built in speakers, beating the Sony FX820 (which I also tried and sent back), but not as good as the PET1030.
* Sound quality using good quality Headphones was very disappointing.
* Battery life is suspect. Other reviewers have already commented on this. I was not able to test this as my battery was bad and lasted all of 15 minutes on a full charge. This made this purchase an automatic return.
* No proper bookmark or position memory. If you turn the player off and on again, your DVD will start from the beginning. The instructions do claim to have this feature, but this is what you have to do to use it. 1) Switch the DVD player to auxiliary input (this turns of the DVD rotation). 2) Close the lid (This turns off the DVD display). Note that the player is still using some battery in this mode and is not truly off.
* Some features, such as picture settings are only available using the remote. Not available using the controls on the player.
Conclusion: -----------
* Worth considering if you want something cheep for the kids in the back of the car.
* No worth considering if you want the best quality picture and sound.
Great DVD playerSeptember 11, 2008 I really like this DVD player. I like to lay in bed and set it on my stomach and watch movies. The only thing I think could be improved upon is the sound, it does not turn up very loud and can sound a little tinny.
This saved my sanitySeptember 8, 2008 This is our second dvd player of this size and brand. I have had 12 surgeries in 2 years with long recoveries. laying on my bed watching dvd's on this player had kept me sane. If I fall asleep, I can just wake up and go back to the point I remember. It has a great picture and I like the "last memory" feature. Only problem I have with it over our other personal dvd's, it doesn't shut off when you close the lid, and the sound is low. But with earphones it is fine. The 10.2 inch screen makes it almost like watching a TV. I have 2 more surgeries to go, so I will be using it again soon!

Sometimes, it is not convenient to do the Qi Gong physical exercises in the bedroom due to the late hour or lack of space. After much research, I bought the Audiovox D2017 so I could do the exercises anywhere. I was surprised and delighted with the quality of picture and color. Even the sound was acceptable coming from this type of machine. My only complaint was that it took a number of hours to try to understand the manual. e.g. Which wires were for which function? Owning two DVD players, I had not learned that the disc had to be snapped into position .etc. etc. Manual writers need to understand that some of us are morons in terms of mechanic aptitude. I was gratified to see on 60 Minutes that an engineering professor could not understand how to operate his new TV set from the manual.
good little (?big) playerJuly 31, 2008 I like it so far. I bought it because I thought my old one (only 7 inch screen) had been stolen. Right after I ordered it (before it arrived) I found the other one. When used around the house & garage (no headphones) the sound and picture are so much better than the old one, that I decided to keep it. Battery life seem sto be a little shorter than my old machine, especially if I pause it to leave the room. Also wish it came with a carrying case.
