3 out of 5 stars ** 1/2 stars only. It does work 2/3 of the time. Worth < $15   December 3, 2008
I rented this just to see even though it had such bad reviews.
Cons:
Yes, we all agree the graphics SUCK. It's Windows '95 graphics at best. Your character floats on things, a lot, etc. Ok, why can't game developers realize if AT ALL possible, make ANY game a first person feel. That's one of the main reasons shoot 'em ups are so popular. It would have made the gameplay also easier & much more fun. Yes, graphics aren't as important, but when traveling, you need more things to know you WENT somewhere, Wii fit got it right with it's jogging island. I love the monkey bars that seem about the length of about 7 cars. Does that exist other then in the Arm Forces camps? The colors on the uniform are so dark & drab & so is the entire game.
On the outfits, red is brown, orange is olive green & pink is burgundy. You are VERY limited by different selection of outfits to each model. Jillian's off camera sound bite comments are yes, very repetitive & somewhat annoying & don't help much, but better then nothing. Though there are WAY too many times she says "good job" when I had just missed or missed almost everything.
The music is varied, from dance to alternative to hardcore Country music & feels just disjointed & annoys me even more then some cutesy kid games or just a beat background boring music (artists & song titles are displayed).
Pros:
Training options:
weight loss, interval, strength & increasing until the end in hill climb. You decide the time & light, medium & hard. You can also customize it by how many workouts you want & it's degree, each square is always 2 min, but you can put the same type in it.
Board calibration:
Unlike other games like the wii fit & all star cheer squad, once you calibrate this/weigh yourself in the beginning, you NEVER have to calibrate it again, even when you step on/off.
Jillian:
Least she's never fake peppy, although you only hear her, never see her except in photos the tips area.
Games:
Ok, the types of games & their controls, the most important aspect of the game. (I played with 2 wii motes & the wii board & another time with just 2 wii motes to test.) It is easy to see how your movements are registering, in the lower left corner it sees how much the remotes/nunchuck are being used (it maxes out quick) & the lower right shows where the weight is centered on the board. The mid right area on many games has arrows & a "ready" indicator where it tells you to punch/kick or to dodge or where to jump in tires. If you move before the "ready" sign comes, it won't register your movement & if it doesn't go away it might need harder/jerkier movement to register.
Log Jump - I had no problem with this in both configurations of controls. It really knows when you really squat on the board while moving the wii motes down at the same time or if w/o the board, just move both wii motes at the same time.
Log Walk -there is NO response to this, it IS broken. You can do ANYTHING both using the board or not & NADA.
Cannon - W/the board, reaching down to pick up cannon balls worked fine, though it said you had to do it 3x to load the cannon, I only had to load once, "push down the cannon" & aim. There is NO way to aim with the balance board & gage. W/o the board, just flicking both wii motes down 1x picked up a ball, down again to set up the aiming & then D pad or control stick to aim & you only had a few seconds to decide.
Handcar pumping on tracks - W/the board, you do squats & wii mote up/down & it noticed both. It was slow to start & when I stopped moving, it took a second to stop moving as well. Otherwise true to what I was doing. W/o the board, it worked fine as well. Yeah, it will only go so fast & it's boring to see.
Paint Grenade Toss - w/the board my squatting worked as long as I also brought the correct wii mote down & sometimes had to do an extra small, quick shake when down to make sure it registered. Not sure the board knows if you squat. The throwing you can't aim, you just throw w/the wii mote in whatever hand has the grenade. Yes, if I didn't pick one up or if I did pick one up & then didn't throw, it did explode in "my hand". W/o the board, you have to bring BOTH remotes down at the same time & it a VERY quick, strong, jerky movement, not a normal squat. It's still the same otherwise, it tells you which hand to use & knows which one you did.
Running (HAH! only jogging) - W/the board, you really have to shift your hips side to side & even better to keep your feet as wide as possible on the board so the board senses a really good shift in weight & REALLY shake the remotes like maracas to really get a good jogging pace. Otherwise you're only walking. Definitely a workout, HA! W/o the board, it's much easier, just fast back/forth, you don't even have to shake both of them to get a response, just one will do if you want to cheat. BORING though, tree... tree... tree... oh, look A BIRD FOUNTAIN... tree... tree... If you stop, she crosses her arms & taps her feet. Jillian still said "well done" at the end.
Dodging Punching bags in the forest - MY FAVORITE!!!!!! I want a better game like this. Reminds me of the baseball throws in Wii boxing training, but this tells you were it's going to come from with arrows, but it would be better & more fun w/a first person angle. W/the board, you really have to watch the arrows on the right mid side. You only have a few seconds to drop down or to the side for it register when the bag does actually swing in. I say that's fair. I had no problem with response as long as I paid attention. W/o the board, ok, i tried fast, slow, I could only get ducking to work perfectly. I only wish that was really Jillian getting hit in the face repeatedly for allowing her name to be used w/o it being in the contract for her to get say on how well it works. Wong move, Jillian. Don't buy this game if you don't own a wii fit board.
Tire jumping - W/the board, it took some time, but realize I had to really sync my movements w/the wii mote & the side of the board it indicates to the side it says & then it worked perfectly. W/o the board, ok, again with the arrow indicators, it only responds when it says "ready". It didn't matter which side both wii remotes went as long as they went to the same side. As long as I didn't spread my arms I would jump correctly.
Kayaking/Rowing - another boring looking one because you're watching her from the side, but with the board, I felt it in my abs a bit, maybe because while sitting on the board I was going nuts trying to see how fast I could make her go, but you max out easily as shown by the indicator on the lower left that is in all the games. SERIOUSLY, there should be a way to make her go super fast when you go really fast. W/o the board, just as easy, just keep the wii motes in unison & you're fine. This would have been better w/the camera behind her & rocks or SOMETHING in the way.
Static Punching bag - LOL this was the funniest one. Ok, w/the board it took me SOO long to figure it out. I couldn't get past "ready" I was kicking, punching, or shaking the wii motes exactly like it said. It wasn't until I shook the wii motes like a 3 year old having a fit or dancing & shifting my weight back & forth like a boxer on coke that it registered. No joke, that is a killer cardio workout right there. Luckily you only have to do that for 2 seconds. Then punching & kicking registered fine. BTW, you have to "shake" like crazy between EVERY punch & EVERY kick. Yeah, killer workout right there. W/o the board, the "ready" only required a fast tambourine like shake for a split second of the wii motes in between every punch & "kick." Since there's no board, you just punch down, though punching across didn't matter as long as you used the correct hand.
Monkey bars - same w/ or w/o the board, move arms back & forth. woo hoo. *snore* what about an obstacle since we're not as winded from just doing that? maybe swatting away things on the bars? avoiding oil? SOMETHING?

This game is WAY too buggy. Only buy this if you have a board & if you really want something that will make you work out, if even means extra movements in a hard, jerky way to get it to register. This game was a great IDEA & a great FIRST DRAFT, but it definitely needed more time, money & effort. The first time you'll love the novelty & the sweat/muscle soreness from moving sooo much to figure out how to do the controls. The second time, you won't care & only LOVE watching your character get knocked on her... wishing it was Jillian for allowing this to pass w/o revision. She has a strong *ahem* spirit, she knows how to push people, why couldn't she do that to the developers?

3 out of 5 stars Sorry Jillian   December 2, 2008
Ditto, Ditto, Ditto! I thought I was the problem in not being able to perform all of the manuevers. I just have to stand and wait for the time to be up. When I am able to perform the movements and go back to the running; I am able to keep my heart rate up. I bought the game to supplement running in the winter and is somewhat accomplishing that. Try it without the balance board; you are able to get a better workout.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   December 1, 2008

Like many of the responses, I was also looking for another option to the Wii Fit. As a Biggest Loser Fan, I immediately pre-ordered this DVD and I have to say that it is a bomb. I agree that the graphics are awkward, but more importantly the sensitivity of the game is off. I was doing the exercises correctly and it did not register right. I had friends try and the same thing happened. I do not have this issue with the WiiFit. Also, the multi-user mode just does not work. Overall, this is very disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars Ultimate Disappointment :-(   December 1, 2008
I was so excited to see the Jillian Michaels fitness game for the Wii that I went and bought the Wii system. I pre-ordered the game and was all ready to get going on a super fitness program. I LOVE the Wii system (I purchased Wii Fit) but the Jillian Michaels game is a sad disappointment. It simply does not work. The Wii balance board is a very sensitive and responsive interface for game play. In the Jillian Michaels game, it seems not to work at all! I kept wondering what I had to do to get my character to move. I was following directions but my avatar moved slowly or not at all. I am keeping the Wii and Wii Fit but Jillian is going back to Amazon. I hope they take her.

1 out of 5 stars I had such high hopes for this game   December 1, 2008
I really like the Wii fit game but there is one thing I do not like about it - it's the fact that I cannot just pick my moves and do a continuous workout. That's what I was hoping Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatium would fix. I got the game and was all pumped up and excited to try it.

Most of the game I was just 'jogging' - then there were mini games inside. The reaction time on the mini games is horrible and I spend more time over exerting my motions to TRY and get it to register than thinking about my form. With the balance board, you're not allowed to actually JOG on it, so in my mind, I would imagine it would be better to use WITHOUT the balance board so you can get more into the motions and burn more calories.

I will stick with Wii Fit over this one and really wish I would have tried before I bought this game. I have only played my copy 1 time and have no ambition to play it again. Honestly, rent or borrow this game before you buy it to see if you are going to enjoy it.
