Nice Clock RadioSeptember 13, 2008 I just purchased this clock radio, and purchased it for a few reasons. First, it has a very nice look and profile. My previous clock radio had a large footprint and only looked OK. Second, I like the auto time set function. My other clock radio had its time factory pre-set, which could be (and was) inadvertently changed. Third, the iPod connection with the retractable tray keeps it out of the way. I'm waiting to see how the time diplay "adjusts" when the iPod is mounted (I have a 4GB iPod mini), as well as figuring out how to use the USB port. Lastly, the turnoff switch is physically disparate from the alarm snooze buttons. This may seem insignificant, but other clock radios that I've owned have co-located the alarm turn-off and snooze buttons. This has caused the alarm to be inadvertently turned off, especially when arising earlier than normal. Because fo this feature, I can actually place it on my nightstand (rather than my dresser) and not fear turning it off.
Some complaints have focused on radio reception and sound. Realize that this is a clock radio and an A/V receiver and, therefore, will not have the same capabilities. To expect that is unreasonable.
In all, this is a very nice clock radio and meets my needs very well. It is a little pricy ($70), but cheaper than other similar products from iHome, Sony, and Timex.
RCA RP5502iJuly 27, 2008 I really like this alarm clock...I had searched long and hard before deciding on this RCA clock. I liked how dim the time gets. I noticed one of the reviews complianed about the iPod being bright, but after a few seconds that light goes out, the only thing I don't really care for is when using the iPod feature for the alarm, the whole iPod lights up when the alarm goes off and stays illumated for about 30 seconds after you touch snooze, other wise I have been very happy with this alarrm clock. It doesn't take up a lot of room on the nightstand, and the sound quality is good for an alarm clock. I would certanily re-purchase it.
The perfect alarm for me, but then problems aroseMay 25, 2008 This clock was perfect for me when I got it. No radio presets (I never change my station) it plays my iPod, has a USB port for a thumb drive, large LED's, 2 alarms... Ever since I bought it 4 months ago I have really appreciated it. However, recently the bottom half of the LED's do not work. So it's impossible to tell the time! All I can get are the top 3 LED's of any particular number. I'll try taking it apart, but it's probably done for.
Better radios around, but this is an excellent clockFebruary 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is certainly not the best radio around, or the best iPod speakers for the price, but as a combination clock-radio + iPod dock, it does a pretty good job.
First of all, this is a clock. You will no doubt get better audio quality from dedicated iPod speaker/dock combinations, but this is a *clock* radio, and a very functional and reasonably full-featured one. Both clocks may be set independantly to either a progressive alarm or to play from radio, USB or iPod. There are the mandatory snooze and sleep functions, and also a "NAP" function, which, having three young children, I will probably not have the leisure to try for a few more years. The interface is straightforward and excellent: no confusing multiple-function buttons, no need to use a remote (there is none) for accessing some of the more arcane functionalities. One button = one function. And you can actually turn off the blue light by dimming the display with the dedicated button!
The sound quality is pretty reasonable once you crank it up a bit, but this is obviously not meant to be your main stereo. At low volume, though, there is a faint but annoying low-frequency "buzz" which is the only complaint I have about this device.
Functional DeviceJanuary 2, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've had this ipod clock radio for a few days now. It's basic - no programmable presets for the Radio function but that's OK with me. The sound isn't the best, but again OK for what I wanted/needed. The only annoying thing is the bright blue light on the front where the ipod sits. This light is only active when the ipod is docked - apparently you can't turn it off. In the night it is quite annoying. I'll cover that light with a piece of electrical tape.
Other than that - it's a functional device that suits my current needs. If you require radio presets, better sound quality, no annoying blue light then look else where.
PS - I do like the size of the unit also. It's not as big as most of the other units I've seen.
