Good driveDecember 2, 2008 I bought this for Dish DVR. I tell you, it is very hard to find a good drive for Dish that will go into powersave when inactive. This drives power-save does not work appear to work with Dish. But, it does have a very nice On/Off switch on back. It works good with Dish network DVR 622, no lag. I just turn it off when not using it. It is louder than the Seagate Freeagent Pro, but once movie sound on, don't hear it.
smooth powerDecember 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Easy to use, speedy as all get out and a sleek design. Love it! I partitioned this and use half as my Time Machine drive for my mac. I am tickled with the data rate that it pushes when it backs up.
As advertisedNovember 30, 2008 Got this to replace a shoddy Western Digital MyBook that just stopped working. So far this drive is doing fine after 3 months. A little bit noisy.
Mac compatible, both functionally and aestheticallyNovember 30, 2008 Finally an external drive that can hold it's own alongside a Mac, I'm surprised this wasn't designed by Apple! It has a very sleek, minimalistic design with a 'piano gloss' finish that fits well either on your desk or as part of your home theater.
Positive aspects: + Sleek design + Price per GB + Mac compatible! + Fanless: less noise and no moving parts to fail + 2 year warranty: versus 1 year for Western Digital and other generic manufacturers
Neutral aspects: - Auto power off: Drive does not seem to auto power-off when not access, but still connected via USB. Newer drives from Seagate automatically power off the internal disk while still staying connected. - Blue light: Although it looks cool, would like to have the option to turn off the blue activity/power indicator, it can be annoying if you're playing a movie off the disk and the drive is part of your home-theater setup.
Overall, still highly recommended especially considering the current price (approx a hundred dollars for the 750GB version) makes it very competitive with other generic USB drive options. Might as well go with a brand name one with a longer warranty!
good productNovember 30, 2008 Bought this to back up my system and free up some space on my hard drive. worked right out of the box and did what it was suppose to do - truly plug and play.
PRO: amazing price for the storage allowed. beautiful design that is low in profile, yet sophisticated and sleek.
CON: short USB cable. if buying, might want to invest in a longer USB cable - unless you are going to keep it next to your computer.
overall, very good product for what i needed it and for its price.
