help with the debateAugust 14, 2008 I, as well as many other customers i think, have spent much time reading reviews and deciding between the px100s and px200s, and i decided to go with the 200s.
It seemed consistant that the 100s had better sound, especially in the bass area, and fit more people better than the 200s, but they also made listening to music less private and allowed alot of ambient noise to be heard (a good or bad thing depending on your use). The 200s on the other hand sounded less crisp and most people couldn't get a very good seal so the bass sounds worse. On the other hand, though, they are more private and block out more noise than the 100s.
They both feature a neat folding design and comfortable fit, as well as a nifty carrying case (don't be fooled by the pictures though, the case is leather, not plastic).
So here is a summary; If you want better sound quality and less risk: px100s. If you want still good sound, more privacy, and less ambient noise: px200s
I opted for the 200s and have not been dissapointed. After a few minutes of adjusting, I found a way to comfortably wear the phones and also maintain a good seal. It is helpful that they put an L and an R on the side of the respective earpone, it makes for a better fit than if you have them on backwards. Also, I sound tested them against the standard apple earphones and the 200s are certainly an upgrade; the mids and highs are slightly better, amd the bass is waaay better (as long as you have a good seal).
As far as comfort, I forgot i was wearing them after a few minutes, until I rolled over and bumped them. I can listen to them for hours unlike the apple phones, which I can listen too for only like 30 minutes before I have to start alternating ears.
I was also impressed at how much ambient noise they block. I was talking to my sister and she asked why I was talking so loud and I realized why old people who can't hear talk so loud! In fact, I can hear the songs on my ipod while i am mowing the lawn at about 2/5 volume with the 200s as well as i can with the apple phones at 2/3 volume! Highly impressive.
I think they look cool too, and the portability is an added bonus. All the people who have trouble folding them must be special edd or something because there are only like three steps and there are only two ways to mess up. As long as you fold the top half in before the bottom half (you'll understand if you have them) its no problem.
I hope this review helped you because it sure would have helped me and I spent like half an hour writing it.
head phonesAugust 9, 2008 well designed, folds to a small compact size. Purchaced for airline travel, hate the headphones rented by the airlines, great sound should have purchased years ago.Must purchase adapter for aircraft use.
Great headphones for travelAugust 3, 2008 I purchased this headphone primarily to take on long distance airplane trips because the airplane-issue earbuds are terribly uncomfortable and often don't even work. Relying on previous reviews, the Sennheiser name, and the fact that these headphones fold up into a neat travel case, I placed my order. I was so pleased with the quality of sound, comfort, and compactness of the headphones, that I ordered a second pair for my husband -- who is also very happy with them. Although they don't completely block out exterior noise, they do provide blessed relief from the incessant noise encountered on airplanes, and they bring clear audio from the video. Although I don't own an I-Pod, these headphones should be great for them. For me, for the price, they can't be beat for travel.
PX200 -They're okay. Not Great.June 17, 2008 After reading the reviews here, I was expecting better. Highs aren't the best. They are comfortable though and if you're not that critical regarding sound, they just might get the job done for you. The case is cool.
A Believer Since 2003June 15, 2008 I got a pair of these headphones after feverishly searching for a solid pair of headphones that provided good sound and un-compromised reliability and portability. At that time when I got them in June of 2003, these headphones were brand new release from Sennheiser with maybe 2 reviews on Amazon at the time. I went with my gut instinct on a new product and bought them. They were something like $40 brand new at the time. It's been 5 YEARS since and I still use them. Granted, the earpads are definitely aged with the vinyl coming apart. Sound sort of comes in and out of the left ear due to too much pulling and perhaps ripping of the cord. So now I only have sound coming through the right ear.
Sound? The sound is very clear for a portable headphone at this price-point. Above-average mid-range. Average highs. Mediocre low-range. Unfortunately, there is a lack of bass, which becomes more aware depending on the location of the earpads to your ear. 4/5
Portability? Heck yes. The best aspect of these headphones is its portability. Ingeniously designed and engineered has the earpads folding 90 degrees into a perpendicular shape against the headband. I've taken these on many airplane flights folded into its protective case. 5/5
Durability? Up till about February of 08, I had been using these headphones on an almost daily basis for 4 1/2 years. Throughout that time, there has been at least 30 times where I didn't realize the cord was too short and tugged or pulled on the cord. I certainly didn't expect them to last over 2 years with this constant abuse, but they did. Praise to the construction of the metal headband and solid hinges. 5/5
Drawbacks? the bass and the cord. It'd reallly help if the cord were an extra 6 inches in length due to my own experience. But for those with an ipod, the current length should do well. Those running off a computer may have a bit more fits with it. The bass does lack some punch. Which in order to improve would probably compromise the portability and engineering of the headphone.
Would I buy them again? In a heartbeat.
