Two Defective Units!August 29, 2008 I wonder if these players were good in 2005, but now they're just plain old and don't work anymore. This is 2008! I ordered one and it arrived defective -- no audio. The picture was fine, but no sound anywhere. I ordered a new one and this one had no picture! Unbelievable! Needless to say, I will not be ordering another replacement for this one, I'm finding a different model and brand. Too much work on my part for junky products.
Wrong Disc message and screen goes darkJuly 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have bought this player back in March for my 3 y.o. I was satisfied with it at first. It fits nice in the car. We only used the product few times. The DVD will spin the disc for the a minute or two and then display "Wrong Disc" message. After a while the DVD screen flashes and then goes dark. I have called the COBY and ask then to repair it. The said it is out of 90 days warranty and I have to take it to the local repair shop. Which will cost me the same money as a player. The customer service was rude. I told then that I am not going to buy anything else from them they did not care.
Stopped working after 4 hours of useJuly 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace the DVD player my kids use in the car. They watched a movie at home and it worked great. We were ALL excited it had two sets of headphones. They used it in the car to watch one movie and it worked fine. Then they went to watch another movie and it stopped playing about 10 minutes into the movie. The screen just froze and nothing would work. We changed DVDs and it gave an error message of "Wrong disc". We tried disc after disc and it never worked again. I was going to get the same player again, b/c I really liked it, but upone further reflection, I think I won't buy this one again.
Nothing but junk!!June 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this unit for my grandaughter. It quit after 6 months. She is 29 years old, so it was not because of abuse to the player. It had a one year warranty on parts, but, guess what!! Coby doesn't stand behind their warranty. She called their customer service with the warranty in hand, and was told that the warranty they had in their computer files was totally different from the one she received with the unit. She also was told that she would be better off just to purchase another one. Also, a repair shop stated that parts are virtually unavailable for Coby products. Please, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING COBY!!! TOTAL JUNK
Does NOT play recordable DVD'sJune 24, 2008 The box has a list of supported formats which includes DVD+-R and DVD+-RW, but I have two of these Coby 7050's and neither one will play a recorded DVD. The user manual inside the box does not indicate that it should be supported, although the outside of the box is explicit that they are supported. I have tried 5 discs and they all come up with "Wrong Disc" errors. The player does support Video CD's on a CD-R, though I have problems with VCD's with menus. Auto-play VCDs play correctly, but I was unable to select a title inside a menu. I've only had the players for 1 week, but they seem solid and both work fine. The picture and sound are average or perhaps slightly above average. I purchased these with the 2 year warranty because I do anticipate they will break within the next 2 years and I'll want my money back when they do. Plenty of extras are in the box: 2 sets of headphones, car charger, AC charger, video cable, mounting straps for a headrest (which I haven't tried yet), remote with batteries, and the player battery. I'd rate this a good investment, but not if you need to play recorded DVD's.
