Product Description Introducing the world's first consumer television with the innovative LIFI light source. LIFI stands for LIght FIdelity. This is a brand-new way to achieve long light source life, quick start-up time and high color fidelity for projection displays. Unlike conventional LCD projection TVs, the LIFI light source lasts so long it might never need to be changed. The High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps used in conventional LCD projection TVs contain electrodes that deteriorate, causing diminished brightness and possible damage to the lamp itself. LIFI does not utilize electrodes, which helps achieve more stable performance and a long lifespan. The light source in Panasonic LIFI HDTVs offers full spectrum illumination that faithfully reproduces brilliant red, emerald green and natural skin tones. Whether you're watching hidden camera footage of rare Amazon Forest dwellers or taking in the local newscast, the lifelike color is a bright, beautiful enhancement to your HDTV experience. The 1080p HD display capability provides twice the number of pixels as 720p HDTV displays for superior detail and extraordinary HDTV reproduction.Everything about the LIFI HDTV is designed to bring you to a new level of viewing pleasure. The amazing colors are boosted by the floating feeling provided by the flat panel design, and the audio is rendered more lifelike by the invisible speakers that help fuse picture and sound. The all-black design adds a sleek, modern and luxurious look to your room.
Excellent quality for low $$September 13, 2008 Got this 1080p set for under $1000, and I honestly have to say I've been extremely impressed.
While some of the online tech reviews focused on it's lower contrast ratio (which is normal for a projection TV), I haven't found it to be a problem - in fact, the TV has a few settings you can tweak if the default contrast isn't up to your standards.
I've owned this for nearly a year now, and it performs perfectly for everything I need it to. 1080p with my Blu-Ray, 1080i from my cable company (looks *awesome* for watching my Dallas Cowboys on Sundays!), 720p or 1080p from my media center computer... heck, even the standard-def TV stations look decent.
I HIGHLY recommend this TV.
Love it - great price and qualityApril 10, 2008 Bought from Best buy like a lot of others for the $996 price. Speakers are freaking loud, I have no idea what anyone is talking about them being bad. I only keep it at 6 or 7. Any louder than that and the little lady complains.
All my friends, some who have other LCD TV models, are jealous. PQ is awesome, no problems. I did change my settings from the defaults out of the box. Would be interested to hear other people's setting.
Slow to turn onMarch 18, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This TV takes 4-8 minutes to turn on. Would you wait that long? I have to. Panasonics's service company did not fix it during the service call. The service tech said that if the LIFI bulb is replaced there will be no more factory warranty. Panasonic has yet to replace it. No returned calls. no more service appointments. No ANYTHING. I like the picture and the design otherwise. I have a MS in engineering. I'm not just being picky. Get real 6 minutes average to come on.!?!?
great t.v.February 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this t.v. dec.07 and I love it. Reading some reviews I see some people are not sure or they love it. I can tell you this working for an electronics store and buying it from where I work this t.v. never got any respect. first 1080p, 56" at the price that is unheard of. Second this t.v. works best in filtered light not bright light. And going into any retail store we all know how bright it is,so DLP's always look dim. Also refresh rate is very good. My ps3 is hooked up via the hdmi and the games look awesome.I did alot of research before buying this t.v. and if I could buy another I would. One more thing I bought a 50" Toshiba lcd 1080p and since I bought the Panasonic I haven't turned the Toshiba on since.
Picture is great, sound has static, remote sucksFebruary 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Received this TV right after Christmas and didn't get HD hooked up until 2 days before the Super Bowl (Time Warner, you suck!). Overall the picure is phenomenal. The Li-Fi bulb pushes out a bright clear picture, so much so that we could see the instant replay's really well during the Super Bowl. I even hooked my PC up to the VGA slot and played Counter-Strike: Source. My video card currently only displays in a 4:3 format (due to the monitor), so I couldn't take advantage of the TV's true ability in that aspect. Still, the picture very clear.
Cons: After about 1 and a half months of use, the speaker system on the TV seems to have developed some static. You can hear the static if you have the TV on for more than 15 minutes. The remote that comes with the TV is also worthless. It doesn't work 75% of the time for some reason, but I use a universal remote 99% of the time to just flip channels and adjust volume. If I need to use any of the other features on the TV, I use the stock remote and just get right in front of the TV because it won't work from anywhere else.
TV was a great but at under $1000 and I will probably call to get the speakers fixed under the warranty.
