Lots Of Pixels In a Small Thin Box The LT-40134 is just six inches thick but packs in a lot of technology for outstanding performance. Quality speakers are hidden away to maintain a beautiful, minimalist look that takes up less space in your room. The display is 1080p, which means it has the full 1920 x 1080 high definition resolution with progressive scan that is the highest quality HDTV standard today. With large televisions, this is important, as having a dense array of over two million pixels prevents the eye from seeing pixelation, especially at close distances.
The television is able to display any video signal that is connected to it. When a 1080p signal is the input, it is passed through with no down conversion, and the 1080p signal is maintained from beginning to end, giving the best picture quality. When a lower resolution is detected, whether it is 720p HD or a DVD, the signal is automatically scaled to display at 1080p, with minimal side effects and a very detailed picture.
Vibrant Colors You've Never Seen Before The LT-40134 incorporates a slew of new technologies that give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80% more color than standard HDTV. The television also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth versus the previous 8-bit color depth. With Deep Color, shaded images show less banding and greater contrast.
Mitsubishi's Full Spectrum Color is an exclusive system that uses a wide range of phosphors in the LCD's backlight for brighter and more vivid reds and yellows, and more shades of green, cyan, and blue. Along with Mitsubishi's Color 4D Noise Reduction, PerfectColor, and PerfectTint, you get a wider color palette and the ability to fine tune the set to your exact preferences. The end result is a picture that is brighter, smoother, and more realistic than ever, with colors that have never been seen on a television set before.
Connections Galore You don't need to worry about running out of connections with the LT-40134. It has a total of three HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player and HD DVD player, and still have an input left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one side), a side USB connection so you can display up to five megapixel photographs on the television, and two rear A/V inputs with S-Video, as well as a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output.
Simple Controls Mitsuibishi's NetCommand allows the included partially-illuminated remote to control an entire home theater system. NetCommand is an on-screen system with simple and intuitive icon-based controls. The LT-41034 also has TV Guide Daily built in, so you have a program guide available all the time.
The LT-40134 is backed by a limited 1-year parts and labor warranty.

A perfect HD tvMay 8, 2008 I own a larger Mitsubishi LT-46231 that is the best tv I ever had...so when I went shopping for a 40 inch for the bedroom at BestBuy I found they did not sell the LT-40134...I purchased a SonyV3000...what a nightmare...motion blur that was the worst I have ever seen ..auto dim..a feature to hide the clouding that plagues Sony sets...color I could never get right after tweaking non-stop for 3 weeks...I gave up and returned it to BestBuy...then I had an idea I called Paul's tv to see if they sold the LT-40134...they had one left...I got a great deal...when it was delivered I used the same settings that I used for my LT-46231...perfection....here are some of the features:
Lush beautiful natural color due to Perfect color and Perfect tint ...more color than the average set..I adjusted the color once and I am done...a sparkle in the HD that sets it apart...no clouds...no bands...
Swivel base
Built in TVguide for the cable input without the box
easy setup it walks you through...
4 HDMI 1.3 inputs...
A one inch bezel all the way around which fits into a smaller space with no screen space loss
Both my Mitsubishi's put any other brand to shame...I have owned 4 HD sets...an LG which was awful...a Panasonic which ended up being too small...I now have found the sets I can brag about...I highly recommend this set..it's wonderful...
Great pictureMarch 5, 2008 I bought this TV two months ago, and I'm very happy with it. The picture is excellent with HD programming (1080i and 720p,) and even with 480p inputs. As for analog signals, well, it's as good as I've seen, but you just have to accept that plain old TV will never look that good on a HDTV. I've also hooked the TV up to a Dell computer with a DVI to HDMI cable, and get a brilliant 1080p picture. The computer runs Vista Media Center using digital cable tuners with cable cards, and the picture is superb from this setup, much better than the component input picture from my Comcast cable box.
The TV automatically recognizes most things you plug in, and sets up the input for you. I haven't used the universal remote features, as I have a Harmony remote, so I can't comment on those, but the remote seems reasonably easy to use. The menus are pretty easy to navigate, but if you linger too long in changing a setting the menu goes away; this can be a bit frustrating.
The only negative I've seen so far is that I can see variations in the screen surface, like bands, but these only show up when there is sunlight reflecting off the screen. They're invisible at night, or when the sunlight isn't very bright. I also wish the TV had picture-in-picture (PIP,) but that's not a knock on what's in the TV as it is.
The TV appealed to me as it needed to fit in an armoire that has a 37 inch platform. It just barely fits, but I got the maximum screen size I could fit in the armoire, so I'm happy. I'd have had to settle for a 37 inch screen otherwise. I'd definitely recommend the TV to anyone looking for a 40 inch LCD screen.
DON'T BUY ITDecember 27, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Don't bother with this TV. Mitsubishi's support for its product is nothing short of pathetic. I purchased this TV last month, only to have a small horizontal blacked out line show up in the display within the first week or so of use. Following all of the warranty instructions, I called Mitsubishi. Their local service center picked it up, called me a week later and told me it could only be fixed if a new LCD panel were provided. I was told I had to call Mitsubishi myself. Upon being called, Mitsubishi's agent claimed that the LCD panel was not within the warranty -- even though the warranty itself has no such exclusion, but covers all parts and labor. So if you want a $1700 paperweight, this is the TV for you. Otherwise, stick with another manufacturer.
Defective TvDecember 3, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Received defective Tv from 6th ave electronics. Mitsubishi refused to accept swap. Mitsusbishi has the Tv for last 20 days and has no update on repairs. Buyer beware.
