Product Description The KX-TG9344T DECT 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with All-Digital Answering System lets you move freely around your home with long range and amazingly clear sound. It also assures greater protection against eavesdropping for all your calls. Operating in the 1.9GHz frequency range, your phone will not conflict with other wireless devices such as computer routers, wireless keyboards, microwave ovens and other common household devices. Now you can program each handset to ring at your discretion. Before going to sleep, simply set the bedside handset to Night Mode so that it won't ring in your bedroom. In the meantime, the handset in the den will still ring when that important call comes in, without disturbing the person who's sleeping. Now you don't have to be holding the phone to see who's calling. Using text-to-speech technology, the Caller ID information is announced between rings. The KX-TG9344T also boasts a talking alarm clock that will tell you when it's time for lunch, and a talking battery alert that politely tells you when your battery is low, with a "please charge phone" reminder. The Light-Up Indicator with Ringer Alert at the base of the antenna will flash quickly to show that you have an incoming call, and it will flash slowly to let you know you have a new message. So turn off the ringer and never miss a call. Fine in many ways, but quite disappointing in othersAugust 15, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The machine is well-made, and will do the job for us. It does the basics reasonably well: answering machine, talking Caller ID. Voice quality is okay through the earpiece and via speakerphone. So don't ignore all the good things mentioned in other reviews. However, there are some serious limitations that I find maddening, especially considering the price.
The answering machine is limited to about 18 minutes of recording time. In this day and age, that's pitifully low. Fine for daily use, but not for a 2-week vacation. My previous answering machine, from almost 10 years ago, has more internal memory. On top of that, when the memory runs out, it doesn't necessarily tell the caller that their message will not be recorded!
The worst annoyance: Suppose someone calls, and another family member answers the phone. You, in the other room, pick up the handset to see who called. When you press the Caller ID button, it says "System is busy...please try again later." So until your housemate hangs up, there's no way to tell who called.
In fact, when someone's using the phone, you're pretty much locked out of doing anything else with the system. You can't access caller ID. You can't access the phonebook. You can't play any messages on the answering machine.
Other problems...
You can't tell from looking at the phones or base unit how many messages have been left.
There is no speed dial! You can use a built-in phonebook, but it can take many keypresses to find the entry that you want to dial.
The handsets usually say "Missed call" when in fact you haven't missed any calls at all! Reason: If you have four handsets, all of them will ring when a call comes in...but no matter which handset you choose to answer the call with, the other 3 handsets will display "Missed Call." C'mon, this is a ridiculous design decision!
In other words, if you really missed a call, all four handsets will say "Missed call." But even if you answer the call, three of the handsets will still say that you missed it.
The Caller ID is annoyingly slow. You don't get to see the whole Caller ID message at once. It shows the text part of the caller ID, waits a second or two, then shows the phone number. I did a test, and it takes approximately 5 seconds per entry to scroll through the Caller-ID list, if you want to see both names and numbers.
The Talking Caller ID is a nice feature, but could be implemented better. Many of our calls are tagged as "Unavailable." My guess is that's pretty commonplace. Unfortunately the Talking Caller ID apparently doesn't have the word "Unavailable" pre-digitized, so it has to synthesize it in that awkward hard-to-understand computer-like voice. We're already making a joke out of it.
There are other ease-of-use issues. I won't go into all of them. A few are:
* The main base unit doesn't have an LCD, which means that you can't use the phonebook from the base. Since there's no speed dial, you can only make a call from the main base unit if you know the number.
* The tone duration/spacing is long, and you can't adjust it. So when the phone dials a phonebook number or Caller ID number for you, it takes awhile for the number to be dialed. It's only a few seconds longer, but my previous phones never had this problem.
Summary: It gets the basic job done, but I'm constantly reminded of its limitations and quirks. And I need to have my old answering machine on standby for when we go on vacation. And my wife has been looking at the handsets with skepticism and trepidation, and then she looks at me. I know what she's thinking, and it's not good.
great phoneAugust 14, 2008 This is a great phone. It does what it says and gets great reviews on consumer reports and other websites that look at the features and compare them.
Great phone - can now use wireless internet at same time as phoneAugust 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mainly purchased these phones so that we could useless wireless internet on our laptop and the phone at the same time - and these work as advertised.
I would have given this 5 stars; however, there is some buzz/static sound on our line while using this phone. We've always had this issue with every phone we use for some reason, and we're not sure of the source. We have DSL, but we have the DSL filters at each phone. The buzz/static may not be this phone's fault, but it is keeping me from giving it a 5.
Really like the address book function, and that all phones access the same address book (put the # in one phone, and it's available on all phones). The function of the phone announcing the caller is iffy - sometimes it's pronunciation is so terrible that it's annoying - but it's easy to turn off.
Also - we use voicemail through our phone provider. This answering machine only has memory for under 10 messages or so - kind of a joke.
An excellent product at a reasonable priceAugust 5, 2008 I purchased this phone set for my parents, who live in a 5000 square foot house in the suburbs. The phones replace a hodgepodge of older phones, which were fading. The new phones have clear voices, they don't interfere with each other or with other appliances. The answering machine works very well. I have two complaints preventing me from providing a 5 star review, and it is probably because I haven't read the manual yet. The first complaint is that the answering machine picks up before the fax machine (on the same line) recognizes that a fax is coming in, and will pick up. I have used a short term solution of turning off the answering machine before I am expecting a fax, but a better solution would be for the fax machine to recognize a fax is coming in. The second complaint, more trivial, is that the voice caller-id is useless. It pronounces all but the most trivial names quite poorly. Regardless, this has been an excellent replacement. Hopefully, it will last as long as our previous Panasonic phones.
Great cordless phone systemAugust 3, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The handsets are small & light and come with an optional belt clip.
The sound is clear even next to the wireless router. The range is excellent. It sounds great throughout the house and around the yard. The speakerphone is clear & loud. To get off speakerphone, you have to press "talk" rather than press "sp-phone" again.
If you're a caller ID subscriber, you can block calls for specific numbers. The phone will ring once and immediately hang up. You can add to the shared phonebook or block calls from any handset by manually entering the number or selecting it from the caller list.
Messages can be accessed from any handset and remotely.
Some other useful features are talking caller ID and alarm (once or daily with tone & melody or 7 fixed voice announcements) for each handset.
The intercom feature between the handsets is also nice.
I recommend this cordless phone system.
