Tools for the Journey Navigation is just part of the journey, and the nuevi 350 is one of the first devices to recognize that. In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language -- right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit's text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.
Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest-- places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nuevi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. The unit also audibly announces the name of upcoming streets-- letting you keep your eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. And if you stray off course, the nuevi 350 automatically calculates the quickest way to get back on track.
*Traffic services available only in select cities where RDS-TMC coverage exists. Requires the GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver and subscription fee to enable traffic capability.

compact and easy to useSeptember 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had the Garmin now for almost 2 months. It's small enough to fit in my pocket or purse, yet big enough for viewing. I velcroed it to my steering column, so I can remove it and have it right by my speedometer for a quick view, if necessary, without blocking it. Speaks the street names and shows better routes to drive if need to change. Recalculates quickly. The only drawback is that it may take a while for it to acquire a satellite signal when initially turned on...as much as a few minutes a couple of times. That's a bit frustrating when you need to get going. Otherwise, it was a great buy for the price.
Garmin Nuvi 350, Top NotchSeptember 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently purchased my first GPS, the Garmin Nuvi 350, after quite extensive research and found it to be all I expected at an affordable price. Anyone purchasing this unit would do well to download the user manual as the quick start guide does not do the unit justice. It also, does not make it clear that you can go to the website and download a current map at no charge. (Once, I believe) Don't be afraid to give this unit a try.
Assemble is too clumsySeptember 7, 2008 The assembly is too clumsy to handle(too many pieces). Beats the purpose of having a flat/thin display. Bulkier versions like c330 or 550 are much better. Slow in acquiring satellites and recalculations but generally decent value for money
Gets you there, but not always directlySeptember 7, 2008 The Garmin nuvi 350 provides step-by-step directions, telling you when to turn and what street you are turning onto. It will get you there, but sometimes it doesn't take you the most direct route. But if you know the quickest way to start out, it will adjust. Also, the maps are not always correct. In one case, it had me make a couple of turns which it thought would keep me on the road, but it led me to the former location of the road which dies out, and I had to find my way back myself. The maps are frequently updated, but need better quality control. The estimated arrival time is handy, but once it seemed obviously way off, and I had to turn the Garmin off and restart it to get it to calculate correctly. So it generally works well, but it does have a few bugs.
