| Editorial Reviews:
From Amazon.com Though it follows a standard movie formula and predictable plot twists, the film Hope Floats is saved in part by the above-average performance of Sandra Bullock, portraying a separated woman who finds her way back to her hometown in Texas, daughter in tow. The soundtrack seems to follow in due course, a collection of country and rock (thanks to the Rolling Stones) acts adding shades of twang to songs that, for the most part, all sound fairly familiar. The duds of the bunch, Bryan Adams's "When You Love Someone" and Sheryl Crow's "In Need," are saved in large part by some surprise keepers, courtesy of Garth Brooks, the Mavericks, and Gillian Welch. The covers are interesting enough. Brooks's take on Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love" is modest and pithy and a far cry from the overblown Trisha Yearwood performance of the same tune that codas the collection. --Jason Verlinde

Great soundtrack! July 1, 2004 I don't buy too many soundtracks, but this is definately one of my favorites. The music really compliments the movie, which I also really enjoyed. One complaint, the song that Jack Ingram and the Beat-up Ford Band sing in the movie, when Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr's characters are dancing, is not on the soundtrack. It was a great song! There's some really good stuff here though. Bryan Adams "When You Love Someone" is touching and beautiful. Deana Carter hands in an understated performance on the poignantly beautiful "What Makes You Stay". Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood each do good versions of Bob Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love" (Garth's was a pretty big hit). The Sheryl Crow song "In Need" is another highlight. Bob Seger and Martina McBride duet on the moving song "Chances Are". Whiskeytown have a great song on here called "Wither, I'm A Flower". Other highlights include Gillian Welch's "Paper Wings", Jonnell Mosser's version of "Stop In The Name of Love", "Honest I Do" by the Rolling Stones and "To Get Me To You" by Lila McCann. A soundtrack full of moving music, great listen!
Grusin's score does more than "Float"....it soars.... November 11, 2003 RCA's Hope Floats soundtrack album, featuring Dave Grusin's original score for the 1998 feature film starring Sandra Bullock, Harry Connick, Jr. and Gena Rowlands, not only brings scenes from the movie to my mind, but also works well as a purely musical creation. Heartwarming, romantic and even jaunty, Grusin's cues are reason enough to add this album to any music lover's CD library. Although all 11 tracks on this album are superlative, the ones I like best are Grusin's instrumental cues "Going Home," "Justin and Birdie," "Time to Get Up," and "Ramona's Last Story." There are also unlisted tracks of songs covered by Garth Brooks ("To Make You Feel My Love"), Byan Adams ("When You Love Someone") and Deana Carter ("What Makes You Stay"). All in all, this a great album to just listen to, even if you did not see the movie. Betty June Moore
Hope sinks if you are misled on the CD September 3, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These reviews for Hope Floats are misleading. The reviews at the bottom of the page refer to the Soundtrack album with songs by Garth, Trisha, Dylan, etc., but in fact the CD in question at the top of page only contains the ORIGINAL SCORE from the movie and NONE of the songs by various artists. This is outrageous and should be fixed immediately. I waited for a week to get this CD, and then find it is something else entirely. Somebody do something to avoid misleading more buyers!
Great CD and movie March 26, 2001 The CD and movie came out at a very good time for me. I was at a crossroad in my life and this movie (and the music) helped me through an extremely difficult time. The music is great. I love all the songs, especially Chances Are by Bob Seger and Martina McBride (my husband and I danced to it at our wedding). I agree with the one review that Klennex are a must and this CD and movie are perfect for anyone who has fallen out of love and has found a greater love waiting for them!!
better than the average soundtrack April 27, 2000 If you enjoyed the movie, you'll like the soundtrack. I agree with the reviewer who liked Sheryl Crow's song "In Need" the best. It rocks a little, the lyrics and her performance of them are GREAT. Maybe her best song (tough to choose between it and "my favorite mistake" from the globe sessions). "To make you feel my love" is a really nice ballad by Garth Brooks (written originally by Bob Dylan). It might even make you think country music might be OK (I do). I had a tough time listening to the stones song, but it grew on me after a while. Bob Seger and Martina Mcbride sing a nice duet that you'll like if you like Seger's ballads. Trisha Yearwoods version of "to make you feel my love" should have been left off the soundtrack. I love Trisha, and the minimalist treatment of the song may have been needed for the movie, but it pales SO badly to Garth's version. If you are into "today's country", this is a must have. If you are a Sheryl Crow fan, you need it for her song alone.
