still popular, 10 years and counting... November 16, 2006 Again, Nada Surf has put out an inspiring, smooth sounding , and mellow album, for which is in constant rotation in my cd player (in home, car, and mp3 player). I never thought Nada Surf got its fair share of credit for there first cd High/Low. There label, Elektra was a major part of their demise. Unlike most people on this review, I loved the song Popular. It really turned me onto rock. It was different, the way it had talking, then got loud yelling and hit right into the chours. It really made a point though, at least to me. I rushed, and bought the first album, and have been hooked ever since to Nada Surf. The Proximeity Effect did not get its credit either. It as a nice follow up, but apparently didnt have the 'hit' single the big shots wanted after there big success on MTV with Popular. I'm rambling...All in all, Let Go is an incredible cd, and delivers in all facets. I cant wait for more from my favorite rock group. I only wish they could, bring back an album with the same rage, and raw lyrics that the song Popular brought. Maybe we can all expirence Popular part 2 in the near future!! I hope and know they can bring out another smash hit in the U.S.A. like Popular was!
what??? July 20, 2004 this is nada surf? the band that did that song popular?? one of the most shocking things i've found out in a long time, is that yes, this band that created this wonderful cd is the same band that created that piece of trash song called popular. this band seems very versatile. this cd is great. fruit fly and hi-speed soul, and blizzard of 77 are just great. i do recommend this album.
a top notch album by a highly underrated band... July 19, 2004 Nada Surf's "Let Go" is without a doubt, a good listen. A good chill album that is perfect for either wasting away a dreary rainy day listening to, or for throwin into your dash during a road trip. In my opinion, Nada Surf is a highly underrated band that deserves more acclaim & attention than they are receiving. I very much look forward to their next release.
Breathtaking, to say the least !!! June 20, 2004 I was never really a fan of Nada Surf before. I found their hit song "Popular" from the HIGH/LOW album to be, well...unpopular. A friend of mine asked me to listen to LET GO and after a few spins I really got it. This is an important recording. It injects new life into the pop/rock genre by keeping things simple. I've set the track "Neither Heaven Nor Space" on repeat many, many times. "Hi-Speed Soul," "Fruit Fly," "Inside Of Love" and "Happy Kid" are infectous little gems as well. Don't waste any time. This is a must-have!
Looks Like Nada Surf Aren't As Good Now They Aren't Popular June 2, 2004 I was looking up the term 'power pop' in the dictionary the other day and I got the following definition 'bland, derivative, lazy, uninspired music'. I had to agree with the definition, at least after hearing Nada Surf. Nada Surf, for those of you who are fool and don't know had this one really big hit Popular that was funny, witty, and one of the few good songs on the albums. But the indie kids, always looking for something cool to latch onto, jumped on the Nada Surf bandwagon to look superior to their peers who gave up on the band long ago. This isn't anything you haven't already heard before. Basically they take Weezer, and remove any of the intensity and emotion that comes along with it. Let Go does manage to have one good song though, Killian's Red. It stands out among the wasteland of the rest of the album. It'd be nice to see Nada Surf take a smart, witty approach to their music as shown in the song Popular, but until then stay far, far away from the band.
