4 out of 5 stars "A Good Egg"   October 28, 2007

That's the sentence that describes Yoshi's Island DS for Nintendo DS best.Yoshi is back with all of his eggs in a 2D side-scrolling adventure and is much like the Yoshi's Island game made for the SNES back a long time ago.Actually nothing has changed as the colourfull pastels graphics, the logic and everything is what it was, except of the story and the ability to now have Baby Mario,Baby Peach,Baby DK and others not much has changed. You might be surprised to know that Nintendo didn't make, intead game publisher Artoon made Yoshi's Island DS the sequel shall i say to the SNES game,it doesn't change a thing as the game is still very good.Had they said Nintendo made it,i would have beleved it.

The story starts as Baby Luigi gets kidnapped by Kamek and Mario fell on Yoshi's Island, the Yoshis will help Mario to reunite with his brother. So you start with Mario on your back but after completing levels you will get Peach,DK,Wario and eventually Baby Bowser! You can change babies at a specific change sign during each levels, wich you'll need to do to get advantage of each baby's different skill.Mario will make you go faster,Peach can make you fly for a short period of time,DK can climb vines and ropes,Wario has a coin magnet(what else?).You have to change babies at some points just to finish the level and sometimes to get the mini-games or huge coins.

Reaching the Big coins with a specific baby to get the matching baby coin can be difficult at times but it will eventually pay off,as it unlock things. You can unlock mini-games by playing them in the story mode, they will then be ainvailable for play in the mini-game mode. Also in each levels you have to collect all the coins possible, red coins and stars to get the best possible rating on each level. And if you get 100 at each level you will unlock a bonus stage like in Yoshi's Island SNES,it can be quite difficult.

There is only story and mini-games at first but after completing you have to complete the story mode gain, this time with a time limit. So once you completed evrything there ain't much to do.The mini-game?Well they aren't really fun with few exceptions and aren't worth playing for many players but still its something different. But to actually COMPLETE the game can take a long time, you will have to play many levels again so that you can get every single thing you might have forgoten previously,so the replay value ain't so bad.Its just repetitive as you complete the Story, thhen play all the levels you did not reach 100 in and then unlock Story mode 2,the same again but with a time limit. Its too repetitive.

The pastel colors, the graphics, the objectives and all,its really like the original Yoshi's Island and a worthy sequel.Artoon doesn't make many change and plays safe with this one,but all in all its very good and if you liked Yoshi on the SNES or every other Yoshi, then this game is for you.A very good addition to anyone's DS collection.Four Stars.

i really enjoy this game; however, there are many drawbacks. It is difficult to achieve the necessary goals for mini-games and extra levels. i would reccomend it, but only if you're a big nintendo fan because it could be difficult to appreciate it for those who are not. a good detail that has been included is the use of old enemies (Cheep Cheeps, etc.)so over-all it is a good game
