Bad Company is Good Fun September 12, 2008 EA's Battlefield series has always delivered a top notch online experience, but how does Bad Company stack up? Perfectly. In Addition to the online play, Bad Company also features an all new single-player campaign which adds nicely to the already tight mix of gameplay.
So whats great about the online play? An all-around quality of design, which few games are able to match. Seven massive and beautifully structured levels make up the field of play, with two well tweaked game modes: Gold Rush(Attack and Defend) and Conquest(Capture the Flag). Both of these modes work very well. Everything feels very balanced.
You are able to pick from 5 different class types; Assault, Support, Recon, Demolition and Specialist. Each class has its perks, catering to all kinds of players and their styles. I found the equipment available for each class to be fairly adequate, enabling for a perfect mix of teamwork with other friends online.
Some criticism, however, may arise in the feel and handling of weapons. The effectiveness of some weapons seemed to be dumbed down to prevent a certain weapon from becoming a "noob cannon". One example is the grenade launcher; even a direct blast from this weapon rarely, if ever, takes out an opponent in a single hit. However, this issue seems hardly to be a problem, and can easily be overlooked for the sake of balanced gameplay.
As for the single player campaign, though not as fine a slice of pie as the online play, is still a great addition to the game. The campaign moves you along large battlefields covering a great amount of distance with a tight nit group of characters who aid you on your way and keep you smiling with light hearted remarks and well tuned sarcasm. This works pretty well overall. One complaint I will mention, however, is enemy AI. It is often easy to outsmart the enemy with workaround tactics. But again, this does little to take away from the great overall experience.
In short, I suggest this game to anyone who is looking for a great online first person shooter. And for those looking for the single player experience; Bad Company may not be the greatest single player game, but it remains well rounded and enjoyable until the end.
