3 out of 5 stars god of rotating flaws   May 11, 2007
Let me start off by saying that had it not been for those rotating spiked towers at the hades part in the end i would have given this game 4 stars. It's so utterly retarded to put those rotating spiked towers, after i went up the 1st one and found out that there was a 2nd one i just didn't bother, in fact i sold the game and i'm glad i only payed like $20 for it which is pretty much what it's worth. I'm a big fan of mythology and fantasy so i did have a lot of fun and some parts were real challenging but other parts were down right frustrating and boring like looking for the 2nd shield and necklace, that i had to look on online walkthroughs to get the answers. The game has it's moments but it can be improved i hope the 2nd one is with less flaws than this, and i really didn't feel that much for kratos i was playing it to finish it mostly but once you get to those spiked towers its just not worth it. Overall it's worth spending like $20 for it but it's far from perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Game of the Year   August 13, 2006
This game won the best game of the year award as well as several others. The game offers different combos for each type of enemy as well as different weapons and magic as you progress through the levels. Each boss you encounter has its own unique and every entertaining battle sequence. The story itself is amazing and very well told on top of fantastic computer animated movies that give you a visual view of the progressing story. After it is all said and done, and the game is beaten, you can do the challenges of the gods, which unlock different suits each having their own special ability. (IE: Cow Suit = Unlimited Magic) The replay value after obtaining these suits is very high. Enjoy because honestly once you start the game you have no choice, unless you have no soul.

5 out of 5 stars Among mere mortals   June 1, 2006

God of War is a spectacular piece that will leave you absolutely spellbound. Breathtaking levels and scenery and very little load time keep you constantly immersed in this world of Greek mythology, giving you a Gauntlet feel but with much more depth. With unique combos for each enemy the battles tend to feel very much like a cinematic, and with beautiful graphics the whole way through the game can feel like one long interactive cinematic at times. There is blood and gore, but it fits in well with the serious tone to the game - not a Kingdom Hearts adventure by any means, but just as (if not more) enjoyable for it. An amazing game for a mature audience.

5 out of 5 stars A mature game for a mature audience   March 15, 2006

Simply one of THE (bold, triple underlined) best titles on Playstation 2.

The story is well told, and builds up slowly... at first you don't really know why Kratos (the main character) is the angry, twisted guy he is - you may even find yourself completely turned off by him - but by the end of the game, you'll understand completely where he's coming from. Also note that this game is rated VERY M. And I don't mean your typical "rated M for violence," I mean "rated M for everything." But the amazing thing is that though the story is very violent, it is by necessity, and not once does the whole thing seem gratuitous or pretentious.

Where this game really shines is in its gameplay. The combat system is simply the best I've ever seen for a game this type (though Prince of Persia 2 is a close second IMO). There is plenty of platforming, puzzle solving (about half of the game is solving one REALLY BIG puzzle), and yes, lots of bad guys to beat up. My only issue is that I would have liked to see more boss fights. The few that are there, though, are nothing short of spectacular.

GoW has some replay value, too. For example, beating the game once unlocks "God mode". Basically just... REALLY hard. ALMOST Ninja Gaiden hard.

Also the graphics are unbelievable - they almost make GT4 look cartoony :)

In short, BUY THIS GAME NOW. And don't buy it for your pre-teen kid. Or your teen kid for that matter. You've been warned :P

5 out of 5 stars Great Game   July 13, 2005

I have to agree that it is a great game but it is very short. You get all these neat moves and then it is over. But an awesome game to own.. it would be great to play over again.
