Video games for the rest of us August 28, 2008 I have never been a fan of video games. I find it tedious and boring to sit down and flick my thumbs back and forth on some little controler to guide the actions of someone else. The traditional video game does not let you feel like you are really playing.
Wii is the first gaming system that I have ever bought. I tried it out at a friend's place and fell in love with it. I like playing games by moving my body. Baseball, Pool, Golf... these all come to life when you have to move your whole body to play the game!
Wii also enables you to track and improve your fitness through its Sports program and, especially, through Wii fit! Get off the couch and have some family fun! You can all get into the action together!
Awesome! June 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just purchased the Wii about a week ago, and so far it is so much fun. I am becoming addicted to it! I would recommend this for people of all ages, It get you up on your feet instead of sitting on the couch and is an awesome family or friend activity.
Overrated and Overhyped August 3, 2007 10 out of 26 found this review helpful
First 2 weeks was fun.. novelty wore thin very fast due the lack of interesting games (haven't you played those games 10x before on SNES, GC, GBA, NDS and N64 before? Ooooo, it's errr.. Mario..again..).
Replay value of some of the games are minimal.. and Nintendo still charges you a premium price for the games that they had on the GC before (except RE4 - which is so far the only replayable game on the Wii IMHO). Virtual Console games are ok priced but they fail to upgrade the graphics (all i want is just a wee little bit of graphics upgrade - smooth out the edges a little).
Spends more time playing X360 and games I bought awhile back (Viva Pinata, Gears of War) At least with Xbox Live Arcade, the games cost pretty much the same as Virtual Console games ($10) but at least they are new games and the graphics are actually upgraded for some older games (i.e. Double Dragon, bombermen).
Get's boring fast July 30, 2007 6 out of 21 found this review helpful
Me and my roommate bought one played it for a month was great for the first two weeks then it was never used we managed to sell it back to the store. It is a fun system but the novelty wears off really quickly.
A better piece of hardware than people think. June 4, 2007 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
Yep everyone loves the wii sports - and rightly so. I've had people enjoying themselves immensely who have never played a video game in their lives before. So we all agree it's fun.
But there does seem to be this underlying current that the graphics and cpu aren't up to scratch.
I would disagree on this point. If you read most reviews of the wii zelda game many reviewers compare the graphics to the xbox 360 role playing games. I have played blazing angels a full blown flight sim/shootem up. Complete with rendered villages and landscapes that rotate and fly past as smoothly as they would on a high end pc. Even in the midst of dogfights with the skies full of detailed planes and the landscape below being fully 3d rendered there is no noticeable slow down and everyhing is as fast and smooth as you could wish for. The textures are detailed and the ati graphics core is obviously capable of all the effects people expect.
It doesn't fully support the hi-definition new screens - however friends of mine have said that if you use the right cable it still looks very good on 40 inch screens (I still have a standard - cheap - 28inch tube job - which the wii looks fantastic on).
So you don't have the same pixel count as you might on systems costing much more. But as the graphics you do have are smooth, clear and not limited that I can see, you won't miss the hi-def stuff. And if you read the manual it hints that future games will have hi-def support.
Also bear in mind that this is a new system and it's nintendo, who have a track record of not telling anyone the full capabilities of their hardware till it's been out some time. The graphics in current games are excellent, particularly in the more complex ones like call of duty, zelda and blazing angels. But as games producers get the hang of the hardware they will just improve. Some people might say it's physically not big enough to have decent harware. I say look at a psp. More powerful than a play station 2 and pocket sized. Size no longer really matters.
So don't be put off buying one just because it's cheaper than an xbox 360. In real terms ie: playability and smoothness, the graphics are just as good and I seriously doubt you will be disappointed.
