4 out of 5 stars Best strategy game for the 'Cube - bar none   November 23, 2005

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is a turn-based tactical RPG, in that you only fight battles and don't choose where to explore or where to travel to next, but there's still RPG elements such as levelling up, stats (stats lovers will *love* this game), class changes, etc. The battles are interesting and challenging, and like other Fire Emblem games, if a character dies in battle, that's it - he or she is gone for good. It makes you choose your tactics very carefully, but is also a bit of a headache when you've almost cleared a map that's taken a good 45 minutes to finish (no in-battle saves, except for suspend) and one of your characters die.

At any rate, a solid game with solid gameplay. Four stars because the graphics aren't incredible (they're still pretty good) and because, like other FE games, leveling up involves random stat increases. I can't tell you how annoying it is to level up a character in battle only to discover that they didn't get any stat increases. Still, these minor flaws don't detract from the entire package - great game!

5 out of 5 stars A great continuation of the Fire Emblem series   November 11, 2005

Ah yes, Intelligent Design has done it again. Another great Fire Emblem game. Lots of interesting new features to keep older fans on their toes, though I thought the difficulty level wasn't as high as past games. Still, it has a good story, and a well rounded cast. And it looks great. Even if you turn the battle animation sequences off, you still get some pretty good fighting animation on the main battle screen. The soundtrack is probably the weakest part of the game. It does it's job, but it's nothing uber spectacular. That, and I don't remember hearing the Fire Emblem theme (that you hear in FE7 and FE8 on the title screen, at least) which was kind of disappointing for me the very first time I played the game. I really wanted the opening introductory sequence to conclude and then jump into a great full audio rendition of that theme... *sighs* I guess you can't have everything.

Overall, I'd say this game is well worth buying. I've already given it two playthroughs. Great game, great fun.
