4 out of 5 stars Gameplay Over Graphics   November 19, 2007

For people who are new to GTA, it's a fun free-roaming game where you are a criminal doing missions for other people and increasing your status among the "gangster community". Besides the main story missions, there are races to win, things to collect, and side jobs to complete. The rest of the review is basically for GTA fans who have had some experience with the past games.

The PS2 version of GTA:LCS came as a welcome relief to people who didn't want to shell out the money for a PSP. Unfortunately, a few things were sacrificed during the transfer. I should get the negatives out of the way so we can discuss how amazing the storyline is.

So, while the graphics are not terrible, they are certainly not up to PS2 standards. It's a far cry from San Andreas and more similar to Vice City quality. Some features (or lack thereof) are akin to GTA III. You can't swim, climb over fences/walls, or crouch. Like another reviewer pointed out, there are no bicycles or helicopters. Plus, you can't use the directional arrows to move anymore, which I found annoying. I had to learn to use the R3 button all over again...eh.

But both Vice City and GTA III were fantastic games. You won't miss the details or bicycles once you get into the storyline. We were introduced to Tony Cipriani a long time ago and he's back as the main character, mother issues and all. After coming back from hiding, he struggles to make it to the top of the Mafia ranks. The game is filled with amusing and interesting characters and missions. Rockstar never fails to disappoint and there's not a dull moment in this game. The cutscenes are short and entertaining enough so that you don't get bored of them, even after beating the game multiple times.

For parents, this is NOT a game for your kids. In the other GTA games, characters are able to employ prostitutes for extra health points and I'm pretty sure LCS is the same. The language is explicit and the entire game is based off criminal behavior and killing.

That being said, I rated the game 4/5 only because it was too short. For the PSP it might seem lengthy, but it's a shame Rockstar didn't expand on it at all for the PS2. All the same, it's a game that no PS2 owner should go without.

* As an endnote, for those who thought the main characters on San Andreas and Vice City Stories were wimps and just generally annoying (I did), no fear. Besides being a doormat for his mother, Tony does his duties like a man and doesn't spend half the time contemplating his morals.

3 out of 5 stars Decent but not up to the others   June 12, 2006

This installment of Gta while decent is definently not up to par
with san andrea's it's more like an expansion for Gta 3. Most of the controls and graphics are identical to Gta 3 with very few improvments. BIke's are included but helicopters and planes are both missing. Crouching is non-existnent and this game feels to short. i would recomend this game only if you are a fan of Gta 3
and do not own a psp
