4 out of 5 stars Bioshock or Voyage to the Bottom of the sea   March 11, 2008
Better late than never for my review! A little bit of everything makes a few days pass by quickly. Bioshock is a little bit of Half-Life, Voyage to the Bottom of the sea (TV show of the Sixties) and Pokemon Snap. Half-Life for the walkabout - mind you this game is less linear. You explore and sometimes fight with a wrench, you can always fight your way with the wrench. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, funny dialogue, big monster, you are at the bottom of the sea. And finally Pokemon Snap, you take pictures, the best ones are the action shot, move with your camera always on you never know when you will have someone jump at you from nowhere. Finally probably one of the best looking game. Better than Halo 3!

5 out of 5 stars Bioshock   December 14, 2007

This game is one of those where you have to see it for yourself. Bioshock is a game where you actually can play the game the way that you want.

There is a lot of weapons in this game, most of you already know about the pistol and tommy gun, but what about power weapons like the exploding crossbow, to the chemical thrower. These weapons are fun to use, but the game makes you earn them, unlike other FPS, that give them to you.

Another feature is the plasmids. While you may not think much about them first, you'll soon figure out that you need to use them to survive. The most useful plasmids are actually the offensive ones, so i'm just going to say that winter blast 3, with a combo of explosives = own. You can destory the highest ranking big daddy, if you are lucky enough.

So enough about the weapons, let's talk about the length of the game, since this is only SP, you must be wondering how good it is. Well, the length is great, if you only decide to blast through the main story, there still is a lot to do.

There is a small con in the gameplay, which is a hacking puzzle, but you can actually skip these by using autohack tools, or buying out the hack. However, you can get some achievements by hacking quite a few times, so you might want to.

This game also deals with your thoughts, and emotions like few other games I've played before. You can either save a little girl, or kill her to get more adam. If you save 3 you get a gift that has rare stuff. Repeat this for actually awesome stuff.

I would recommend this to you if you don't have Xbox Live even, this is a game for someone that doesn't care for it, since it is only SP.

Overall I give it a 5/5

5 out of 5 stars Awsome, but rent it first.   October 21, 2007

The reason I said rent it first because it is different that your average FPS. The levels are not linear and you may spend a lot of time looking for things. But the developers thought ahead and will give you hints.

Basically, the character Jack finds himself crash-landed in the middle of the pacific ocean. He runs to a nearby lighthouse to seek shelter. Where he finds himself a few minutes later, plunging into the water in some sort of submarine to see a city built underwater. Jack listens to the "Tour guide" saying that the city is awsome blah blah blah. But it turns out it's corrupt due to.....well......"Drug" addicts.

The drug is actually a mutagen that allows the taker to plasmids which are basically super powers. Your main enemies are Splicers which are ADAM addicts and abusers.

Now about the gameplay: The levels are very dark and confined. This makes it intially hard to navigate throughout. I one time missed a weapon and that made it really hard. But eventually you'll get used to it and the game will be fun and a breeze.

Your weapons have different types of ammo like armor-piercing, anti-personell which I think is very original. To get ammo and other items, you can buy them from cheesy 1950 vending machines or search desks, cash registers and bodies.

You starts off with the electro-bolt plasmid. This gives you the ability to stun oponents with an electric shock. At first you can only have two plasmids at a time, but you can buy more at ADAM vending machines.

How do you get ADAM? From these little girls who run around, extracting ADAM from dead bodies for recycling. The catch? They are protected by these really tall, armored guys called Big Daddies. Don't let the name fool you, these guys are tough; especially the first few. But like everything else in the game, IT ALL gets easier no matter how frustrating it may seem.

In conclusion, Bioshock is an awsome game. If you don't feel like buying it, I urge you to try it.

5 out of 5 stars Disutopian Madness   October 18, 2007

What do you get when you throw 1940's era propoganda of the ideal society, genetic modification, and science completely free in this 'great land of tomorrow' of Rapture, you find yourself sole survivor of a mysterious plane crash by this lighthouse in the middle of nowhere. As the lead character descended into the black bog of the Atlantic ocean, you get this immediate creepy feeling about where you're headed, down, into the water to see this underwater city, Rapture, from a far it looks beautiful and prestine, but the second you reach your destination you see there's something very wrong. This genetically modified world has gone mad, and all the inhabitants have lost their minds and have started killing with gruesome results. Not to mention the existence of the Big Daddy and the little sisters, but if you wanna get into this game you have to let the story unfold, as you run throughout the city of Rapture killing these mutilated inhabitants trying to find a way out or a reason for the madness. This is a fun and spontaneous first person shooter with character development, equipment development as well as interesting and destructive powers, everything about this game is fun and entertaining, the story develops great with real tension with every voice you hear, and every change in music, even the vending machines have this weird and creepy quality. The story paces well, you'd think with a closed venue like an underwater city you'd see many similar environments, not at all, the game is almost free roaming given the linear city, but the design is great, truly the best first person shooter to come out, yet on the 360, with a great story to back it, and a great upgrading system this game is a keeper for anyone. Enjoy.

This is an add-on to the review I gave previous, although the above is very true, this is an amazing game. However, and keep this in mind, I have had a few technical issues with this game, like freezing, frame rate issues, black screen, also this is very annoying I saved about ten times, this game allows for saving whenever and where ever, but all those saves magically disappeared. So just a warning, if these kinds of issues really turn you off a game then maybe don't buy this game, it can get frustrating.
