My First GPS August 31, 2008 After seeing a friend's GPS, I knew I had to have one. After much research and review reading, I decided on the Garmin nuvi 260, and I'm glad I did. I got it last month, and have taken 2 road trips with it, and it performed (almost) flawlessly. There were a few times when I KNEW a shortcut, and it took me a different way, but it was very quick to recalculate the route based on my "wrong" turn. Since it is illegal in Calif to mount it from your windshield, and I don't like the dashboard mount, I just keep it on the center console. It calls out the street names, so I don't have to look at it anyway. I also love all the points of interest. We needed to find a mattress store (of all things) on one of our recent trips, and it listed about a dozen in the area of the motel where we stayed. All in all, a great little unit for a great price on Amazon.
Garmin nuvi 260 3.5 August 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased the Garmin nuvi 260 3.5 inch size and couldn't be happier. It is the least expensive Garmin GPS system that announces the street names by name as you approach them, rather than, "Turn left here...." I know the GPS technology is still evolving, but this Garmin system has not let me down. Short trip, long trip doesn't matter, it is dead-on accurate. I would not recommend buying the "wide-screen" version 260W. Why? because there is no advantage that I can see. All the vital info is in the center of the GPS screen. The menus are really not that much bigger on a wide-screen version. And, you set the menu data before you start driving anyway. As I drive, I find I listen to the GPS more than I watch it, so I don't need the wide-screen. Finally, the 3.5" 260 is easy to put away and easy to carry. I would buy this Garmin 260 again. I love it.
Nuvi 260 GPS August 30, 2008 Loved it. Used it on a recent trip and it worked perfectly! Clear instructions and voice prompts are great. Thought about getting a more expensive one, but not necessary. This does it all.
Great Updates From The Cone-Shaped Models August 29, 2008 This unit is much improved over my Garmin that I purchased 3 years ago or so. The main differences are the better and brighter screen, the thinness of the unit and of course: saying the actual street names instead of simply turning in 500 feet!
If you are updating or getting your first GPS, this is a good base model to start out with. It is feature rich and the price is right! You really can't go wrong with the secure feeling you get just having this along in your car whether you are just driving around town or taking a road trip.
Well worth the $200!
