What is not to love?November 22, 2007 41 out of 43 found this review helpful
I have been using it for the last 3 days and I think it's a great product. I agree it is a bit pricey, hopefully it will come down soon to make it more popular. What I love about it; being able to read NY Times, Times magazine, etc. on a small single device that you can hold with one hand (really useful in crowded public transportations), quality of the screen, wikipedia and dictionary, how fast you can download a book and the fact that if you turn it on it will be at the same page you left it when you turned it off.
What I don't like but it doesn't bother me; no use for an MP3 player, on/off button on the back, cheap quality of the cover that comes with it.
I know some people are complaining that for this price you could buy this new 7" mini laptop running Linux (Eee PC I believe) but who wants that to read book?. When you turn it on, it's on in 2 seconds, not 30 or more. I have an iPhone and with is a perfect companion.
Abysmal Implementation of a Much Needed DeviceNovember 22, 2007 7 out of 68 found this review helpful
This is exactly the kind of lightweight, portable device that's needed to bring e-books into the mainstream, but gets everything WRONG on pricing, content, software, end-user rights... Maybe the worst part is, when this bastard child of vendor/publisher greed goes deservedly belly-up, it will "prove" that there is no market for such a device- when the TRAGIC FLAW is in the IMPLEMENTATION. So disappointing- a huge false step for Amazon.
KindleNovember 22, 2007 37 out of 40 found this review helpful
I love the Kindle. At firts I was like everyone else when I saw the pics, awful. But in person, I have a totally different opinion. It actually looks good. I have been waiting for an EBOOK Reader for some time now. There are already a few out there, but none of them with a library big enough for me to invest in the readers. Amazon changed that. With 90,000+ titles and the potential of millions, I could not wait to get the Kindle. And now that I have it, I don't regret it. The satisfaction of searching, buying and reading a book within a minute from the comfort of my bed is priceless. Keep in mind that I wanted an EBOOK Reader; not a magazine reader, blog reader, newspaper reader, web browser, mp3 player, dictionary or an encyclopedia (Wikipedia). The fact that Kindle gives you these are just extras. You either use them or you don't, period.
The beggining of a new generation of technology!November 22, 2007 22 out of 28 found this review helpful
I, in fact happen to own an Amazon kindle. On Tuesday, I bought a book and started reading it. I was very impressed on this new 'ebook'.
The price: At first, you might say," $400??!! Im not paying that much for the kindle!" But just consider, in a year, you will probably have bought about 20 books or more. Say each book is about $15. You would have spent about $300 on books in a year. The Amazon kindle can store 200 books at a time! Can you carry 200 books on an air plane or train? Now you can! Imagine: your whole library traveling with you.
The Amazon kindle is definitely worth the money!
No PDF??November 22, 2007 27 out of 98 found this review helpful
Why would I buy an expensive device that did not read PDF?? If I want to use this for work it would be useless. I also already have a library of books and docs in pdf and other formats. They seem to be useless with this device.
Come on, it is a good idea, but get rid of the stupid limitations and make it functional.
