Doesn't do what it impliesNovember 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these, and immediately returned it on checking out the owner's manual--this unit will only allow you to use one line at a time, not two--you can't use your landline on one handset, while using the cellphone link on another handset.
It's obvious there's no reason for this--since multiple handsets can attach to the same line, through the base, at the same time, and since the two lines don't use the same hardware in the base unit, this is a simple engineering choice by Panasonic--something to force consumers to a "two line phone system." I find this sort of thinking unacceptable.
awesome concept.. works great!November 11, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was definitely skeptical of this after reading all the reviews. I think this might be my first product review, but I felt I should post since the average for this product is so low. I have a palm treo centro and it paired perfectly. I did an hour long conference call with this handset today and have made dozens of calls the last few days. It's cool to be able to make mobile to mobile calls while my cell phone is being charged, on a full sized handset (I used the speakerphone on this which also worked great). The only negative is that it doesn't allow me to dial from my cell phone (where my address book is), nor does it pull my address book to the handset :( I'd remove half a star for that I suppose... More importantly as a cordless phone is perfect, no static, great range. I tried the panasonic 5.8GHZ before this and returned it because of the background hiss. This handset is silent!! I ordered another unit for my house, hopefully the razr for my wife syncs up fine with this.
Beware - this system does not work!November 6, 2008 This is such a cool concept -- unfortunately the phones don't work in the most basic way. I bought the basic system with two handsets and then two additional handsets. My wife and I each have Motorola RAZR V3 cell phones that we hoped to also integrate.
The biggest problem is dropped calls on the landline. Calls over a few minutes long were dropped without warning. This happened on all four of the handsets on the system.
Second big problem was with the cell phone integration. After receiving an incoming call on my wife's cell phone line, if she got another call (after completing the first call and hanging up) it would not come through. The caller would get the cell service voice mail as if the call had not been answered.
We complained to Panasonic and they authorized a return. They sent us refurbished units (as is their policy). They replacements are even worse - land line calls are still being dropped but, adding insult to injury, two of the handsets won't register with the base.
It seems like there is some kind of fundamental design problem with this system. If they can get it worked out it will be really cool but for now it doesn't even work as a basic phone.
One other issue that is not Panansonic's fault but it's something we never thought about - you have to leave the cell phones fairly close to the base in order for Bluetooth to work. But then, when you receive a text message your cell phone goes off (and you don't have it with you because you left it by the base). I didn't realize, until this happened a few time, that our kids don't use the phone to call, they use it to send text messages. So I think there is a fundamental flaw in the usage model as well.
Bluetooth enabled link to cell home phoneOctober 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My husband and I each have a cell phone so we had no need for a landline. We moved into a house that had no reception in the basement. This phone solved that problem. It has taken me a few weeks to figure all the features out. I was able to link both cell phones to the base. I keep one handset in the kitchen and one handset in the basement. You can answer either cell phone on either handset. Works well and serves it's purpose.
Upgraded KX-TH1211B is much better than KX-TH1211October 28, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This innovative product provides all the advertised features. The KX-TH1212B is much better than the original KX-TH1212 which dropped calls. Glad Panasonic got it right on the updated version. I recommend that anyone with the original KX-TH1212/KX-TH1211 phone system should return it under warranty for the new KX-TH1212B system. Pansonic replaced my old system no questions asked.
Drop your landline for good and transfer your landline phone number to an add-on cell phone for added convenience, portability, and cost savings.
