great for natural lightOctober 18, 2008 We love this little tripod. It allows us to take more pictures with natural light and no flash, and it's also great for getting all of us in the picture. We use a remote or a timer and set the camera up in any location. Great idea!
A handy product, just don't use it with any pro level zoom lensOctober 17, 2008 The Joby GP3 works great with SLR bodies with light lens attached to it. Although the GP3 definitely is not a real tripod replacement, it can be extremely handy when you're trying to pack a light load. I've used it with a d300 w/ plastic lens, such as the 50mm, 60mm, and 18-55mm lens. However, if you're planning on putting pro level lens that weigh a good pound or two, then you'll want to look elsewhere. I've tried attaching my D300 w/ 24-70 nikkor and the legs did not hold up. Overall, the GP3 is an innovative product that's light, unobtrusive, and very handy if used with the right equipment. I would not recommend using any pro zoom lens with the GP3, because the legs simply are not strong enough to hold up.
Good little tripod... just don't push it.October 16, 2008 Ok, no bones about it: the Joby Gorillapod GoGo does the job as advertised. It handles the tasks I've thrown at it pretty well.
I've attached a Canon HV10 camcorder to it and a Fujifilm Z2 digital camera to it and the Gorillapod handled both. Obviously, the little Fujifilm camera was no problem for the flexible tripod. I was able to twist and pose the tripod in varied configurations with very little trouble. For this task, it's perfectly suited; letting me get into my own shots.
But the camcorder was a bit much for the Gorillapod. I was able to get it into one sturdy position, but that's it. Any further tinkering caused the tripod to collapse or tip over.
At first blush, the three legs were very stiff and took effort to twist and pose. But after some various fidgeting over the course of trying it out, one of the legs loosened up at the mount position, making that leg able to hold only one position with any certainty.
Now, I likely exceeded the limits of the little guy by strapping a camcorder to it, and that I'll take fault for. So, for smaller digital cameras, this little guy is the ticket. Just don't try to use it with a camcorder that weighs 14 ounces or more.
Good BuyOctober 16, 2008 I got this as a gift for my brother and he loves it. It's easily portable for him to take and set up in all the weird places he wants. Just a bummer if you don't have something to set/wrap it on to if you are trying to take a head on shot. It holds onto most things pretty well too, I worry some of the joints might get loose after a lot of use but that hasn't been the case so far.
