Love my mini lap top!September 11, 2008 I did a lot of research and read many other reviews before deciding to make the investment in one of my own. I can say I am very happy with my purchase. I bought it to use for traveling. It's so light & easy to take along! It does take some getting used to the smaller keyboard, but it does everything I wanted it to do with ease. I thought I would need to learn a new software program or purchase one with Windows XP. How wrong I was! If you know Windows XP, you can use Linux exactly the same instantly. Everything is completely compatible with XP and user friendly. You WON'T be sorry your purchased this little Gem!
No modem??September 10, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This might be the greatest machine in the world, but it was useless to me because a modem is "optional." To top it off, I wasn't able to find out how to get this option added by the manufacturer; the best I could find out was trying to use a USB modem. I had to return the unit, and I thought other dial-up users should be aware of this issue.
Great notebook for its price and mobility!September 9, 2008 I've had my Eee PC 4GSurf for 3 months now and am pretty pleased with it. I love how lightweight and portable it is, as I'm a student and I carry enough bulk around campus without the added weight of a standard size notebook. For basic internet and wordprocessing tasks, it runs nice and speedy. It doesn't have enough RAM to handle much multitasking, but for on-the-go surfing and email its resources are more than adequate. The wireless works well, but the set up is a little buggy. If you don't do it right, the setup can get stalled on "pending" but once you figure it out it's fairly easy to work around. The small keyboard can take a while to get used to as it's too narrow for most people to touch type on, but it's manageable. The battery life is decent, though not as great as I'd like. I typically get about 2.5-3 hrs from it.
My only real complaint is the tiny screen. I knew what size it was before I bought it, but I don't think I realized how much I'd miss having a larger resolution. The width isn't bad, I can tolerate the sidescrolling, but the screen is so short it can be hard to watch video content on the web. Some of the dialogue boxes for the programs and games that come preinstalled on the machine are even too tall for the screen and that's sometimes problematic. I tried installing GIMP on this computer but couldn't get past the installation process because all of the boxes extended beyond the limits of the screen. Again, given that I knew the screen size before I bought it I can't complain too much. But if I had to do it over again, I might choose to shell out the extra money for a newer model with a bigger screen. Overall though, I'm still happy with the purchase.
Asus Eee PC 4G SurfSeptember 8, 2008 This is a nice, small laptop for my third grade son. The screen is a bit small, so you have to scroll down a little to see the entire webpage, for example but not a big problem. It works just fine and he enjoys having his own computer to play games, learn and surf the web. My kindergartener also enjoys it. Decent value for the money.
Pretty goodAugust 21, 2008 I find this a useful little machine; however, I find it hard to log onto some wireless connections sometimes. I thought it would be a bit easier that it is!
