Good budget N router September 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace an older D-link router that was showing it's age, and bought it especially for the N band to match a new laptop.
The setup is easy to be honest: I didn't even bother with the CD malarky that is included because I find they usually cause more hassle than they save. To get it working you just plug in the relevant cables and go the setup page in your web browser (just type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar). From there you just log in using the default password in the manual and run the setup wizard which just takes a few minutes. Simple.
The only issue I had was that it couldn't connect to the internet at first, but I quickly figured this out: I had to use the same MAC code as my old router I was replacing. This is most likely a problem with my cable internet and not the router though, but if you use Virgin Media cable it's something to remember.
This item is full of features, comes with all of the accessories you could need and is generally pretty great. It's also great value for a wireless N router, so the faster speeds and longer ranges don't have to be as expensive as you think.
The only improvement I can think of for this is including the faster Gigabit ethernet connection, but that always seems to bump the price up significantly and that defies the point of a good-value home router. As a minor gripe it's also a little big (~19.5 x 12 cm), which can be annoying if you keep it under your desk at your feet.
It's a good choice for a home cable-based network.
a bit fiddly getting an IP address September 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a stylish looking router, that was easy to configure and set up, even for a technophobe like me! The only problem I had was establishing an IP address, however after about 10 attempts my PS3 managed to connect. I got this router specifically for use with my PS3, and although my signal strength is only between 25/50%, my PS3 plays beautifully online. I use Virgin cable XL package, and this router is just for this particular media type. I would recommend this router to anyone who has cable. And it comes with an 11 YEAR warranty, how generous is that!
