These have been worth every penny. I have been increasingly worried about the security of a wireless network. Talk about a weight of my shoulders.
Best of all it only took twenty seconds to get online using these Max Value 85 Mbps Home Plus, and another 20 seconds to install the security software. Just plug them in and away you go.
They are cheaper to buy than a router. They offer great piece of mind. There is no drop in signal.
I know the brand isn't well known but this product gets my vote - 110%

Be very sceptical of that 85mbps speed quoted in specs. If you read the supplied manual it says 25mbps (typical) . This is the maximum I have attained with pair of these homeplugs in adjacent sockets. That is to say: you get a maximum of 3.5 MegaBytes per second ( with one directional transfer ) . BTW It can make a fair difference to transfer rates whether you push or pull those files too.
So, that does not sound too bad, does it...? Well, this dropped to 300kBytes/s when I was moving files between computers in an empty ( 'silent' small 4-bedroom house ) different floors or even rooms separated by a single wall. Here wireless 802.11g worked better.
However, careful swapping of sockets increased my upstairs/downstairs speed to 2MBytes/s. Please bear this in mind if you are tearing your hair out attempting large file transfers. 5 ( optimum ) to 8 mins for a single Gigabyte file. Strangely, plugging kettles, microwaves, toasters & washing machines only slightly reduced the transfer rate.
Incidentally, playback of movie Dvd over a mapped drive was fine in Windows XP after my socket-swapping exercise but hopelessly unpleasant before .
I would be keen to compare the pricier 200mbps units in the same environment. Would they be better where the 85mbps plugs were so poor or only faster in ideal conditions. Has anyone done adjacent socket testing of the MaxValue 200 units? Think I read web reviews about 80ish mbits/s ( so 10MBytes a second ) but unsure if this is sustained or the best transient value obtained. If you have these perhaps you could tell me how long it takes you to transfer a single 1GB file under various conditions.

I work from home and have previously used a wireless router which was great at first (18 months ago) but has gradually provided inconsistent wireless throughout the house. It got to a point where on some days a signal could only be received if I was sat in the same room as the router.
I read up a little on home plugs and was sceptical at first as I am not particularly techie and didnt understand whether they would actually work. I have to say they have been brilliant and I can now work from any room in the house with an excellent connection. These are well worth buying if you experience fluctuating signal strengths and like me was getting increasingly frustrated with your wireless router. The set up took seconds and no software needed to be downloaded. All wires are included within pack also. Thoroughly recommended.

Just got these home plugs after finally losing my rag with my wireless connection which kept dropping out. Fantastic delivery from Amazon as usual (only if they have the product in stock, mind). Dead easy to set up, don't bother with the CD, its not required. Stick one at the modem end and connect up, stick the other at the computer end and connect up and Bob's your Uncle!
So - issues. Only 1 to be honest. The plug is massive! I absolutely refuse to believe it has to be so big and it just gets in the way. On some sockets it is likely to block or at least interfere with getting another plug in. You also need to put this plug into an unscreened socket which means that the expensive surge protected expansion doohicky you bought to stop your computer from getting fried is no use. So, if you are buying this you might want to add a 'normal' extension socket to your basket at the same time. Yes, another one in the house!
