very low shutter lag, good image quality, but some niggles September 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First time in years I have owned a camera, took it out yesterday and managed to snap a couple of lightning strikes, which is nice.
A problem I found is the autofocus works most of the time, but if there's something wrong with the scene pointed at, probably not enough contrast like dark clouds waiting for lightning, it fails completely. It does have a manual focus, which I checked before buying, but that's so unusable, it's almost as if they deliberatly designed it so badly to stop you using it, and it's only available in a mode that forces you to choose either the aperture or shutter speed, or both, if you want manual focus then you're obviously a pro who doesn't want the auto mode.
An easier way to get it to focus properly is to prefocus on a scene that works at the same distance, then while keeping the button half pressed point at the target and then shoot.
Brilliant Camera August 21, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Received The Fugi S5800 Camera from Amazon and have been very impressed with it,was very pleased to see the owers manual was in English, and it also had a quick start sheet with just the basic instructions, the few photos I have taken so far have been of a lovely quality, this camera is ideal for those who like me wanted a better zoom than you get with the normal digital but did not want to get into a very expensive range,I have gone through the features and found them easy to follow, a super camera at a great price.
Excellent July 29, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I Recieved this camera today and it was much more than what i expected, i have recently grown more interest in photography and thought it was about the right time to buy a low end D-SLR at first and this is great for just that. for more casual hobbists this camera is great, especially if you just want the camera to do the lot for you on auto, also there are pre-set settings for such things like portrait, landscape, sport etc. also if you want to improve your photography knowledge and want to change different effects on your images then you can either change the mode to manual so that you determine all of the settings, apperture prority so that the camera automatically sets the appertuer and your change the other settings, or shutter prority which is the same bu it changes the shutter qutomatically obviously.
Compatible memory cards July 28, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This camera can take both SDHC and XD flash memory cards.
According to Wikipedia entries, these two types of card offer varying performance.
The XD memory card has a theoretical maximum write speed of 4MB/s. However, the SDHC card offers up to 22.5MB/s.
The Fujifilm documentation is vague about the compatibility of memory cards with this camera, but I can confirm that a Transcend Class 6 SDHC 8GB card is working fine in my S5800 camera.
Fantastic Camera July 21, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The S5800 is an excellent camera, with superb macro settings and built in modes so that you don't have to remember to change the exposure, shutter speed and flash for a night shot, for instance. Fantastic value for money, 5 stars!
